Halloween invites us to dress up, try on different characters, and have a little fun!

And we also have an entire cast of inner characters with us all year long.

Some are easy to recognize. Others can be quite surprising!

Halloween offers a playful opportunity to notice the many sides of ourselves: the planners, dreamers, protectors, critics, children, adventurers, and all the others.

In psychosynthesis, we explore these different aspects of ourselves, often called "subpersonalities", with curiosity and openness.

Each has its own story, perspective, and something to reveal.

And sometimes the most interesting discoveries begin when we listen.

Interested in deepening your understanding of inner multiplicity and how it informs your work with others?

Our upcoming four-part experiential series, The Living Psyche: Exploring Inner Multiplicity, begins in January 2027. We'll explore subpersonalities, roles, identities, and the possibilities for greater awareness and synthesis.

Learn more on our Programs page.

Happy Halloween from the Psychosynthesis Institute!

As we prepare to welcome our new Psychosynthesis Coach Training cohort this Tuesday, October 13, we’re feeling grateful, excited, and deeply appreciative of the circle coming together.

This year’s cohort gathers from a number of locations across the United States, as well as Canada, the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Jordan, Armenia, and South Africa. Each of us bringing a rich range of lived experience, perspectives, questions, and aspirations.

From many horizons, a new circle unfolds.

Each of our cohorts is a circle of its own, and also part of something larger: a growing international community of people drawn to psychosynthesis as a path of personal and professional transformation.

To our new participants, returning students, and facilitating team: we’re so glad to begin this journey with you.
With warmth and gratitude,
Psychosynthesis Institute (Pi)

Psychosynthesis in Conversation with Neuroscience
Neuroplasticity + Psychosynthesis: Participating in Our Own Becoming

Our brains are continually changing through experience. Neuroscience calls this capacity neuroplasticity. This is the brain's ability to adapt and develop new connections throughout life.

But there is another dimension to this remarkable capacity: our ability to participate consciously in the process of change.

Psychosynthesis offers practical and experiential pathways for doing so.

Through awareness, we begin to recognize familiar patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding.

Through imagination, we explore new possibilities.

Through the act of will, we make choices aligned with our values, purpose, and what matters most.

And through intentional action and practice, we can cultivate new patterns that gradually become part of how we live.

Assagioli's psychological laws offer a framework and map for participating in the affirmation of purpose and action.

Of course, we are also profoundly impacted by the conditions and circumstances of the larger world. Our capacity for choice exists in relationship with those realities.

An invitation for today:

What familiar pattern might you be ready to reconsider?

What new possibility would you like to cultivate?

And what small, intentional action might help you begin?

Change takes time. Psychosynthesis reminds us that self-realization is an unfolding process; it is one where awareness, will, and practice can help us move toward lives of greater purpose and meaning-making.

We can consciously participate in our own becoming.

Since returning from the International Meeting at Casa Assagioli in Florence, we have been reflecting on what we carry forward: continuing threads, new conversations, and emerging possibilities.

Several themes returned again and again:

Guiding collective process:
How psychosynthesis can inform groups, learning spaces, communities, and shared processes of change.

Creativity:
As a way of meeting uncertainty, recognizing what is emerging, and giving new possibilities form...within and beyond conventional "artistic" expression.

Life transitions:
The larger thresholds when identities, roles, or directions shift and we are invited to listen for what is ending and what wants to emerge.

Experiencing joy in uncertain times:
Assagioli wrote that “Joy does not exclude suffering. They coexist in us.”

What might it mean to cultivate joy without denying grief, struggle, or the realities around us?

This also connects with our developing 'Little Booklet of Joy', inspired by Assagioli’s vision for co-created booklets bringing together many voices.

At Casa Assagioli, we extended the invitation for others to contribute to this first international booklet on joy. More about this very soon.

And woven through these conversations was a larger question:

How can psychosynthesis contribute to personal and social transformation?

For us at Pi, professional training is part of this work, and it is only a beginning. We are interested in how psychosynthesis becomes lived and applied in daily life and work, relationships, creativity, helping professions, groups, organizations, and community.

This includes questions at the heart of our "IDEEAL model":
Inclusion, Diversity, Empathy, Equity, Accessibility, and Learning innovation.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more about these themes and emerging 2027 initiatives, including Reflective Peer Supervision, advanced and self-paced learning, facilitator development, and the emerging Synthesis Method™.

For many helping/healing practitioners our work can be both deeply relational and surprisingly solitary.

We become better practitioners through reflection, relationship, and shared inquiry.

While experience, training, and skill matters, so does having places where we can bring the questions that do not resolve neatly on our own.

The moments when we are uncertain.

The engagement that may activate our own feelings, assumptions, histories, or identifications.

The sessions that challenge us, draw us in, or stir reactions we need to understand.

The ethical edges.

The places where our own history, assumptions, hopes, or identifications may be entering the work.

The situations in which there may be several reasonable ways forward.

Reflective peer support offers something different from advice or evaluation or formal supervision.

It gives us a place to slow down, think together, hear other perspectives, and become more conscious of how we are showing up in our work.

In psychosynthesis, this matters particularly because the practitioner is never entirely outside the process.

Our capacity to observe, disidentify, return to center, and choose is part of what we bring into every helping relationship.

Peer reflection helps us practice that with others.

As Pi moves into its next chapter, we are continuing to create more opportunities for this kind of shared professional reflection, for newer and experienced practitioners alike.

What has helped you most in staying reflective and supported in your own practice?

Psychosynthesis has always asked us to begin with ourselves.

To become more aware, with deeper connection to meaning making with the freedom and agency to choose.

Through good, strong and skillful will, we become more connected to our capacity to bring what matters into form.

Personal development is just where it begins, because psychosynthesis is about so much more than the individual.

What we become shapes how we meet one another, how we participate in groups and communities, and how we contribute to the larger world.

One of the conversations that stayed with us from our recent gathering in Italy was the importance of 'enlarging the field' rather than duplicating what is already being offered.

There is room for different schools, approaches, generations, and expressions of psychosynthesis; each contributes something of its own while remaining connected to a larger whole.

For us, stewardship means honoring what has been carried forward while also helping psychosynthesis reach more people and more places:

those seeking personal development,

those working with others,

and those engaged in community, creativity, education, leadership, and social transformation.

It also means making room for new practitioners, guides and teachers to bring their own questions, perspectives, and forms to the work.

At Pi, this wider movement is beginning to shape what comes next.

More opportunities for reflection and learning.

More conversation across fields and generations.

More ways for psychosynthesis to move beyond the places where it is already known and into the life of the wider world.

There is more to come.

For now, we are listening closely to what this next chapter is asking of us and how we might help create the conditions for the work to continue growing in new hands.

We would also like to hear from you.

What do you believe psychosynthesis needs now?

Where might it reach more widely, deepen, or enter into new conversation?

How might you want to contribute and become involved?

We have just returned from Florence and the international gathering at Casa Assagioli, carrying renewed appreciation for both the roots of psychosynthesis and the many ways the work continues to evolve across cultures, generations, and communities.

Our explorations, workshops, seminars, and training are grounded in Roberto Assagioli’s foundational 7 core experiences of psychosynthesis and the journey along the act of will.

Our work is also shaped through community: through dialogue, shared experience, practice, reflection, and the different perspectives each member of our team and each participant brings.

And we believe a living psychology must remain alive in the present: in conversation with coaching, neuroscience, creativity, contemplative and somatic approaches, and the movement from personal toward social transformation.

This is the orientation we bring to our CCE accredited Psychosynthesis Transpersonal Coach Training.

Our training is rooted in the foundations, experiential and relational in its learning, and co-creatively engaged with what is emerging.

Our next international cohort begins October 13, 2026.
Due to some recent inquiries, we’ve opened a couple of additional places for this small international cohort.

Rooted in Assagioli’s foundational psychosynthesis.

Connected through community.

Alive in the present.

Rosella D’Amato is such a gift of joy and love as she leads us in sacred dance.

Moving in circles and spirals, we enter the universal patterns and mysteries found throughout nature, life, and art.

So, too, with psychosynthesis: returning to center, widening outward, and discovering new forms within the larger whole.

... Happy World Psychosynthesis Day...

Celebrating 100 years of psychosynthesis with gratitude for those who have carried, taught, developed, and lived this work across generations.

And with curiosity about what its second century may invite us to create.

May we continue deepening psychosynthesis as a resource for personal development, right human relations, and social transformation, while making room for the voices, questions, and new forms that will shape what comes next.

From the center, the circle unfolds.
