Everyone deserves to feel Seen. Heard. Supported. ♥️

For women and survivors experiencing homelessness, moving forward takes more than resilience. It takes compassion, meaningful support, and a community that believes in their future.

We were proud to stand alongside survivors, city leaders, service providers, advocates, and community members at this year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Community Rally at City Hall, centered on the theme: Surviving to Thriving. 💜

Together, we recognized the strength and resilience of survivors while reaffirming our collective commitment to building a community where everyone has access to safety, healing, and the support they need to thrive.

Thank you to our partners at Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence, the SF Department on the Status of Women, the Mayor’s Office for Victim’s Rights, the SF Domestic Violence Consortium, and so many others who share in this vital work.

Survivors deserve more than the opportunity to survive. They deserve the resources, stability, and support to thrive. Together, we can continue building a safer, more supportive San Francisco for all. đź’ś

Landmark Report Reveals Hidden Reality: Women’s Homelessness in San Francisco is a Crisis of Violence

Because the federal government no longer tracks gender in annual Point-in-Time counts, women experiencing homelessness have been rendered virtually invisible in housing policy. Today, the San Francisco Women’s Housing Coalition (WHC), a coalition of 18 front-line organizations, in partnership with Dr. Julietta Hua, Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at UC Davis, Applied Survey Research, and Code Tenderloin, is releasing groundbreaking data from a survey of 407 unhoused women across our city.

As co-chair of the WHC, Community Forward SF helped advance this research with Rebecca Jackson, our Vice President of Reentry & Public Affairs and WHC Co-Chair, facilitating four focus groups to deepen understanding of women’s experiences.

Key Findings from 'Understanding Women’s Homelessness in San Francisco':
• 57% of women lost their housing due to domestic violence.
• 74% experienced violence or abuse while unhoused; 50% experienced sexual violence.
• 53% of women who accessed city shelters reported feeling unsafe.

Women are telling us unequivocally: Safety and stability are inseparable. We cannot solve homelessness through rental assistance alone, especially when women fleeing gender based violence face the threat of assault in co-ed shelters or must navigate complex systems to access the safety and support they need.

San Francisco must institutionalize recurring biennial gender counts, allocate dedicated shelter beds for single women and survivors, and provide flexible upstream rental assistance before displacement becomes chronic.

What an incredible show of support! đź’ś Thank you to our amazing team and community for wearing purple in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and standing with survivors of domestic violence.

Every purple shirt, ribbon, and show of support is a reminder that awareness matters, survivors are not alone, and together, we can help build a community rooted in safety, support, and hope.

We’re so grateful to everyone who participated, shared their support, and helped spread the message that domestic violence awareness is something we can all be part of.💜

đź’ś Tomorrow, we wear purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence.

Behind every survivor’s story is a person who deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. This month and every month, we stand with survivors, honor their strength, and reaffirm our commitment to building a future free from violence.

Wear purple and show your support! Tag us in your photos so we can celebrate this community of solidarity together.

Wear purple. Raise awareness. Stand with survivors. đź’ś

Thank you to Uber for hosting a powerful conversation with men, community leaders, Uber drivers and employees, and community partners about healthy manhood, culture, and safety—and the role we all have in creating safer communities.

Women account for approximately 90% of reported rideshare sexual assault victims, making it critical to have honest conversations about gender-based violence, the role of men in challenging harmful cultural norms, and the responsibility corporations have in creating safer environments.

We were proud to contribute to this important dialogue, share our perspective, and engage alongside participants in examining how individuals, communities, and companies can help prevent harm and build a culture of safety and accountability.

Because everyone deserves to feel safe and secure.

We were honored to join Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence for their powerful Domestic Violence Awareness Month kickoff, Surviving to Thriving.

Hearing directly from survivors about the realities of leaving a violent relationship—and the often unseen impacts on safety, financial stability, and well-being—was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

The event also brought together advocates, service providers, community leaders, and partners committed to preventing violence and creating safer communities. As District Attorney Brooke Jenkins shared, "breaking cycles of violence also means educating and engaging young people early."

At Community Forward SF, we’re proud to stand alongside survivors and our community partners in this work. We know that creating safety takes all of us—and that survivors deserve the support, stability, and opportunities to thrive.

Thank you to Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence for bringing our community together and creating space for these important conversations. ❤️
