What are we looking at?

After breast implant placement, the body naturally forms a layer of scar tissue—called a capsule—around each implant. In some patients, that capsule can thicken, tighten, and eventually develop calcium deposits, making it unusually hard and rigid.

Although both implants were still intact, the capsules surrounding them were heavily calcified. Here, Dr. Albert carefully cuts into the removed capsule, revealing its thickness and stiffness.

An intact implant does not necessarily mean the surrounding tissue is normal. Calcified capsules may be associated with firmness, discomfort, distortion, or capsular contracture, although every patient’s experience is different.

MYTH vs. FACT: Every breast lift requires breast implants.
