My new motto is “Be brave (and take your meds) 💊”

Mental health matters, so I want to bring some awareness to this hard part about being on SSRIs. My lexapro is my favorite tbh, it allows me to feel more like me and not like a ball of anxiety. But it comes with its challenges: the responsibility of making sure I have the right dose on hand at all times and the severe consequences when I don’t.

Make sure to work closely with your doctor if you need medication support!

How much therapy is enough?! This is a hot topic in the therapy world, and rarely is there a “right answer”.

The one thing I didn’t add to the list of considerations: how much I as the therapist need baby snuggles!! 😂

September is a busy month for advocacy and awareness, all of which are close to my heart ❤️

👶 🏥 NICU awareness month: I’ve dedicated my career to caring for babies in the NICU and beyond, and this place holds much heartache but also much hope. Much love to all the NICU families navigating the unknowns and shout out to the providers surviving (sometimes even thriving?!) in this intense environment.

🎗️ Childhood cancer awareness: historically only 4% of cancer research funding has gone to pediatric cancer, and our kids deserve better! Childhood cancer has hit me both professionally any personally and I’ll always fight for more research and awareness!

🧏🏽‍♀️🦻Deaf awareness month: I was born with hearing loss that has worsened over time, and while I was mainstreamed and grew up hearing/speaking, my connection to and appreciate for the D/deaf community has grown immensely! I love learning more about the language, culture, and beauty and am proud to be DHH

💔 Su***de awareness month: I’ve lost multiple family members and friends to su***de so this topic hits me to my core. Along with these losses, my parents working in the field of psychology all my life means mental health has always been important to me, and I strive to bring awareness through my own personal experience with anxiety/depression. 988 is the national Su***de and Crisis Lifeline, and it even has accommodations for DHH people and is available en Español tambien. Take care of yourself, take care of each other 🫂

What are you honoring/celebrating this month? ❤️⬇️

The Department of Ed declassifying PT as a profession degree will restrict borrowing amounts for student loans, further restricting people from pursuing this career (which is already lacking in diversity and accessibility). Swipe for some of my thoughts ➡️ and let me know your thoughts on this topic! ⬇️

Accepting and embracing my hearing loss has been a life long journey.

As a little kid, I was bullied for my disability which led to shame about who I was and lots of wishing I was “normal”.

As I grew, I learned to accept this unique part of who I am, and realized the strengths that come from this part of my journey.

Only in adulthood (and after years of therapy and reflection) have I come to embrace my hearing loss. Now I can honestly answer that if somebody with a magic wand could take away my disability, I wouldn’t take it. Not because having hearing loss is easy (ooooh boy does it come with its challenges), but because without my disability I wouldn’t be ME.

Today, I keep this picture of little Angie right by my hearing aids so every day I can show that little girl who felt so alone how great life can be BECAUSE of her hearing loss and hope that she would be proud of me. 🤟❤️

I have so many ideas to change the NICU for the better if only I had a magic wand 🪄What would you add to this list?? 👇

Fed is best but that doesn’t make it easy. Some thoughts after a hard convo with a grieving mama about switching to formula after working so hard for so long to provide breast milk.

Sometimes all I can say in this hard work is: “I’m sorry. This is hard. I’m here for you” 🤟

Drop some love for the mamas doing it all for their babies ❤️

We’ve been rolling out an evidence-based protocol for early identification, monitoring, and treatment of head shape concerns in our NICU. The motto around here is (iykyk😂)

Here are the highlights and recommendations, but if you want the full presentation comment “HEAD SHAPE” and I’ll send you all the deets! 🥰

(Btw I’m becoming known as the “protocol queen” around my team is that a good thing or bad thing?! 😂😂🤦🏽‍♀️)

It’s my 9th wedding anniversary to the most amazing partner in the world. Yes, I’m spending it finishing my charting on the couch after another crazy busy day at work, but we got to celebrate together this weekend and it was magical. I’m so lucky to have love like this and a partner like him 🥹🤟
