September is a busy month for advocacy and awareness, all of which are close to my heart ❤️
👶 🏥 NICU awareness month: I’ve dedicated my career to caring for babies in the NICU and beyond, and this place holds much heartache but also much hope. Much love to all the NICU families navigating the unknowns and shout out to the providers surviving (sometimes even thriving?!) in this intense environment.
🎗️ Childhood cancer awareness: historically only 4% of cancer research funding has gone to pediatric cancer, and our kids deserve better! Childhood cancer has hit me both professionally any personally and I’ll always fight for more research and awareness!
🧏🏽♀️🦻Deaf awareness month: I was born with hearing loss that has worsened over time, and while I was mainstreamed and grew up hearing/speaking, my connection to and appreciate for the D/deaf community has grown immensely! I love learning more about the language, culture, and beauty and am proud to be DHH
💔 Su***de awareness month: I’ve lost multiple family members and friends to su***de so this topic hits me to my core. Along with these losses, my parents working in the field of psychology all my life means mental health has always been important to me, and I strive to bring awareness through my own personal experience with anxiety/depression. 988 is the national Su***de and Crisis Lifeline, and it even has accommodations for DHH people and is available en Español tambien. Take care of yourself, take care of each other 🫂
What are you honoring/celebrating this month? ❤️⬇️
