MTHFR doesn’t directly cause digestive problems... but methylation, inflammation and nutrient absorption are closely connected.

So, what does MTHFR have to do with gut health?

It’s a great question; and the answer is a little more nuanced than simply saying that an MTHFR variant “causes” gut issues.

MTHFR is involved in folate metabolism and methylation, while your gut plays an important role in digestion, nutrient absorption and immune function. These systems can influence one another, which is why looking at the bigger picture can be more helpful than focusing on one gene or one symptom. 🧬🦠

There’s also the gut microbiome to consider. The microorganisms living in your digestive tract interact with your immune system and contribute to a complex environment where nutrition, inflammation and overall health all intersect.

Curious about how these pieces fit together?

Your gut doesn’t just affect digestion. It also communicates with your brain, immune system and stress-response pathways.

We often think about gut health in terms of digestion... but your gut is connected to so much more.

Your gut and brain are constantly communicating through what’s known as the gut–brain connection. Signals can travel in both directions, involving the nervous system, immune system, hormones and the trillions of microorganisms that make up your gut microbiome.

That means supporting your gut isn’t simply about keeping digestion comfortable. Looking at the bigger picture can help us better understand how gut health fits into overall wellbeing. 🧠🦠

And this is where prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics can become part of the conversation. They each interact with the gut ecosystem in different ways, which is why understanding the microbiome matters.

Stress, sleep, hormones, nutrition and medications can all affect mental clarity. Brain fog rarely has just one possible cause.

If you've ever had a day where your thoughts feel cloudy, your concentration disappears, or even simple tasks seem to take more effort, it's tempting to look for one obvious explanation.

But brain fog isn't always that simple.

💤 Poor or insufficient sleep can leave you feeling mentally drained.

😰 Stress can make it harder to concentrate and stay focused.

🧬 Hormonal changes can influence how you feel and function.

🥗 Nutrition plays an important role in providing the nutrients your brain and nervous system need.

💊 Medications and other health factors can also influence mental clarity.

And sometimes, there may be more than one factor involved.

That's why understanding the bigger picture can be more helpful than immediately assuming there's a single cause behind brain fog. 💙

Swipe through our carousel for a quick look at some of the common factors that can affect mental clarity.

B12 helps support nerve maintenance, myelin and normal cognitive function; it does much more than support energy.

When people hear “vitamin B12,” energy is often the first thing that comes to mind. But B12 plays important roles throughout the nervous system and brain, too.

Vitamin B12 is involved in maintaining normal nerve function and supporting the formation and maintenance of myelin, the protective covering around nerve fibers. It also contributes to normal cognitive function, which is one reason B12 has become such an important nutrient to understand when looking at overall brain and nervous system health.

And just like the rest of the B-vitamin family, B12 doesn't work in isolation. Understanding what it actually does can help you look beyond the familiar “energy vitamin” label and appreciate its broader role in the body. 💙

They may sound similar, but one is already a reduced form of folate and the other requires additional conversion.

If you've ever wondered about the difference between folinic acid and folic acid, you're definitely not alone.

The names are easy to confuse, but these two forms of folate aren't identical. Folic acid is a synthetic form that needs to go through several steps in the body before it can be converted into the forms of folate your body uses. Folinic acid, on the other hand, is already a reduced form of folate.

Understanding those differences can make it easier to understand why different forms of folate are used in different supplement formulas; and why knowing what you're taking matters. 💙

Our guide breaks down the differences between folic acid, folinic acid, and methylfolate in a simple, easy-to-understand way.

Active folate support doesn’t always have to come from a direct methyl donor.

Methylfolate is an important form of folate, but not everyone experiences supplementation in exactly the same way. Some people may find that highly methylated supplements don't feel like the right fit for their routine, which can leave them wondering what other options are available.

That's where understanding the different forms of folate can be helpful.

Folinic acid is a naturally occurring, metabolically active form of folate that follows a different pathway from methylfolate. Learning how these forms differ can help you better understand your options when building a supplement routine that works for your individual needs. 💙

Our latest article explores the strengths and limitations of methylated B vitamins, including why some people may want to consider alternatives to direct methyl donors.

💙 Val/Val, Val/Met and Met/Met: What do these COMT results actually mean?

If you've ever received a COMT result and wondered what all those letters were supposed to tell you, you're definitely not alone. 🧬

COMT is often described in terms of ""slow"" or ""fast"" activity, but understanding what those terms actually mean is more useful than simply putting yourself into one category.

The three common combinations (Val/Val, Val/Met, and Met/Met) are associated with differences in COMT enzyme activity and how quickly certain compounds are broken down.

But there's an important point to remember: one genetic result doesn't tell your entire health story.

Swipe through our guide for a simple breakdown of the different COMT results and what they can mean.

💙 One helps make methyl groups. The other helps use them.

If you've been learning about MTHFR, you may have heard COMT mentioned alongside it... but they aren't doing the same job.

MTHFR plays a role in converting folate into the active form your body can use in the methylation cycle. COMT, on the other hand, provides instructions for an enzyme involved in breaking down certain compounds, including catecholamines.

So while both genes are often discussed when people talk about methylation, they have different roles within the bigger picture. 🧬

Understanding those differences can make it easier to navigate the many conversations around MTHFR, COMT, methylfolate, and methylation without getting lost in the terminology.

Our latest guide takes a closer look at COMT, what it does, and how it fits into the broader conversation around genetics and methylation.

💚 Glycinate, citrate, threonate and Sucrosomial®. Why are there so many forms of magnesium?

If you've ever gone shopping for a magnesium supplement, you've probably noticed there isn't just one option. Instead, you'll find several different forms, each with its own characteristics and intended uses.

That can make choosing the right one feel a little confusing at first.

The good news is that understanding the differences doesn't have to be complicated. Learning how magnesium supports healthy methylation, and why different forms exist, can help you make more informed decisions about your wellness journey.

Our latest article explores the connection between magnesium, methylation, and the MTHFR gene, while also helping you understand why magnesium has become such an important part of the conversation. 💚
