Last week, QPR Institute had the privilege of traveling to Ocean City, Maryland, to conduct a QPR Instructor Certification Training for the Ironworkers District Council of Mid-Atlantic States.

Every new instructor represents more than another certification—they represent hundreds of future conversations, lives touched, and communities strengthened. By equipping Ironworker leaders to bring QPR back to their locals, jobsites, and families, we're helping build a sustainable network of peer support where it matters most.

Thank you to the Ironworkers District Council of Mid-Atlantic States for your leadership, your dedication to protecting your members both on and off the job, and for recognizing that mental health and su***de prevention are fundamental to keeping every Ironworker safe.

This week, QPR was honored to deliver three Gatekeeper Trainings as part of the Iron Worker Safety Director Certification Course at Local 63 in Chicago. These leaders understand that safety is more than physical hazards—it's also recognizing when a coworker may be struggling and knowing how to connect them to help.

Thank you to the Ironworkers for your commitment to looking out for one another on and off the job. By expanding awareness, strengthening peer support, and equipping safety leaders with life-saving skills, we're helping make mental health and su***de prevention part of the conversation in the construction industry.

One of the highlights of AAS 2026 was sharing QPR's growing work in law enforcement su***de prevention.

Led by Shayna Klassen Shayna Klassen, QPR National Training Director, and Govan Anthony Martin Govan Martin, longtime QPR Master Trainer, this session explored the unique su***de prevention challenges facing law enforcement professionals and highlighted a practical, peer-driven strategy for recognizing warning signs, starting conversations, and connecting individuals to help.

Thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in this important discussion. Every officer trained represents another opportunity to create connection, reduce stigma, and save lives.

One of our favorite parts of AAS 2026 was welcoming a new group of QPR Instructors through our QPR Instructor Certification Training.

These dedicated professionals spent the day building the skills and confidence needed to teach QPR in their communities, workplaces, schools, healthcare settings, and organizations. Every new instructor represents countless future conversations, interventions, and opportunities to save lives.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in St. Louis and committed to becoming part of a growing network of su***de prevention leaders. Together, we continue expanding the reach of QPR—one instructor, one community, and one life at a time.

What an incredible week at the 2026 Annual Conference of the American Association of Suicidology.

QPR was honored to connect with su***de prevention professionals, researchers, advocates, and lived experience leaders from across the country, all united by a shared commitment to saving lives and creating hope.

We would also like to congratulate the winners of the 2025 AAS Paul Quinnett Writing Competition.

First Place: The Falcon, the Sea-Glass, the Dog, and…Santa Claus? by Katalina Gille
Second Place: Tomorrow Will Be the Day I Die by Carrie Badillo
Third Place: When Silence Nearly Killed Me by Dan Fendley

Your powerful stories reminded us why lived experience matters, why breaking the silence matters, and why hope remains one of the most important tools in su***de prevention.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, shared their experiences, and helped move this important work forward. Together, we continue to build a world where more people know how to recognize the signs of crisis, start a conversation, and help save a life.

🧠QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a nationally recognized su***de prevention training. It's similar to CPR, in that it trains everyday people how to respond in a mental health crisis.

This training can now help Hmong communities in Marathon County and across the U.S. access life-saving su***de prevention resources.

This project was made possible by the Marathon County Health Department, the National QPR Institute, the Hmong American Center, New Beginnings for Refugees, and Aspirus.
