The GBMC Slide Project is helping bring new answers to decades-old sexual assault cases while supporting survivors every step of the way.

In the latest episode of The No Pix After Dark Podcast, host Aaron Dante speaks with GBMC’s Laura Clary, MSN, RN, FNE-A/P, SANE-A, SANE-P, Director of the GBMC SAFE, Domestic Violence, and Child Protection Program, and Dani Imbragulio, CAC, AAHS, Victim Advocacy Coordinator, about trauma-informed survivor support, the SAFE & Domestic Violence Program, and the forensic work behind the GBMC Slide Project.

Strength. Hope. Survivorship. đź’š

On Sunday, more than 250 cancer survivors and their loved ones gathered at Valley Mansion for GBMC’s annual Cancer Survivorship Celebration, a cherished tradition that began over 30 years ago.

Together, we honored each survivor’s unique journey with flowers, bell ringing, and heartfelt recognition—from those newly diagnosed to those who have been living with cancer for decades. We were also inspired by keynote speaker Bob Windsor, who shared his story of living with colon cancer for more than 20 years.

Thank you to all who joined us for this special day of celebration, support, and community.

GBMC hosted its annual Cancer Survivorship luncheon for 250 cancer patients, their guests and oncology nurses and doctors.

"They were Peter’s first friends—true angels. They held our family’s hands through some dark days and helped us celebrate the joyful times.”

For Louise Hanssen, GBMC’s NICU holds a special place in her heart. As a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, she spends her days caring for GBMC’s tiniest patients. But when her son, Peter, arrived at just 32 weeks, she experienced the NICU from a new perspective — as a mom.

Peter’s NICU team cared not only for him, but for Louise, her husband Michael, and their entire family during an overwhelming time.

Today, Peter is a thriving toddler who loves spending time outside with his siblings and family dog. His story is a beautiful reminder of the lifesaving care, compassion, and support GBMC’s NICU team provides every day.

Join Peter and his family in supporting GBMC’s Father’s Day 5K & 1-Mile Fun Walk on Saturday, June 20. Every registration and donation helps support the nurses, doctors, and staff who care for babies like Peter and families like the Hanssens.

ICYMI: June is Men’s Health Month 💙—the perfect reminder to prioritize your health.

While colorectal cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men, cases are dropping thanks to one major factor: early screening.

Midday Maryland recently sat down with Dr. Joseph Frenkel, the newest member of the GBMC Health Partners Division of Colon and Re**al Surgery, to discuss why a simple screening is so vital.

Key Takeaways from Dr. Frenkel:
- Start at 45: The standard screening age has dropped to 45 due to a rise in early-onset cases (or earlier if you have symptoms or a family history).
- Prevention first: Colonoscopies don't just detect cancer—they help prevent it by removing precancerous polyps.
- Advanced care: If treatment is needed, GBMC utilizes highly precise, minimally invasive robotic surgery to ensure better control and faster recovery.

Take control of your health today. Watch the full interview below and schedule your screening at gbmc.org/colorectal

June is Men’s Health Month. And, while according to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men, it’s important to note the incidence of this cancer has been decreasing in recent years.
