Richard Alvin “Dick” Stover, 76, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away at his residence on July 21, 2026.
Richard was born on August 6, 1949, in Sycamore, Ohio, to Franklin J. and Peggy I. (Hushour) Stover. He graduated from Mohawk High School with the Class of 1967. In his younger years, Richard worked alongside his father at the local Gulf gas station in Sycamore. It was there that he developed a lifelong love of tinkering, fixing, and working on just about anything with an engine. That connection to family continued in different ways throughout his life, including the time he spent with and helping his mother and the relationship he shared with his brother, Michael.
Richard went on to become a loyal and hardworking employee of Timken in Bucyrus, dedicating nearly 37 years of service before retiring in 2006. Many of his friends and coworkers at Timken knew him simply as “Smokey.”
Richard had a deep love for the outdoors. Some of his happiest days were spent at Lake Erie with a fishing pole in hand, often sharing those days with friends and family. He also enjoyed camping and cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.
Richard never knew a stranger. He had a natural ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone, anywhere. Whether it was an old friend, a coworker, or someone he had just met, Richard could always find something to talk about, and chances are, they wouldn’t be strangers for long.
