Let's think about breath...
Your breath.
Not just that you're breathing - but HOW you are breathing.

Most of us walk around breathing through our mouths all day without realizing it. (research shows how the shape of our heads have changed over the past few hundred years and that makes a difference too) And it's costing us more than we know
- more anxiety
- worse sleep
- lower energy
- and a nervous system that's stuck in low-grade stress mode.

Your nose was designed for breathing. Your mouth was designed for eating. When we get that backwards, everything in the body feels it. (but I am not sure how many of us have tried eating through our noses).

Anyway - if you are up for re-training your nose...try this today - Box Breathing:

It takes 4 minutes and it works.
👉 Inhale through your nose for 4 counts
👉 Hold for 4 counts
👉 Exhale through your nose for 4 counts
👉 Hold for 4 counts
Repeat 4–6 times. Through your nose the whole way.

Notice what happens to your shoulders. Your jaw. Your heart rate.
This is one of the simplest tools I know for resetting your nervous system in the middle of a hard day - and it's free.

This week's map question:
Where are you being asked to go that your body already knows you're not ready for?

We say yes with our mouths long before our nervous system, our spirit, or our soul has caught up. And then we wonder why we feel so far from ourselves.

Easter doesn't end the invitation to slow down …it deepens it. Resurrection isn't instant readiness. Even the disciples took time to recognize what was standing right in front of them.

New life emerges at its own pace. You don't have to be fully arrived yet. Just notice where you are.

That noticing? That's the beginning of wisdom.

He is risen.

And I want to say that with full joy - because it is true and it is everything.

And I also want to say this:

Resurrection does not erase grief. It redeems it.

Mary wept at the tomb before she recognized Jesus. The disciples were behind locked doors, afraid, even after the news reached them. Thomas needed to touch the wounds before he could believe.

The resurrection did not skip over their pain. It walked right through the middle of it.

So if you are singing Alleluia today with tears still on your face -

If you are celebrating resurrection while also carrying a loss that feels very much like Holy Saturday

If joy and grief are living in you at the same time this morning —

You are in very good company.

The risen Christ still bears his wounds. He was not resurrected away from his suffering. He was resurrected through it.

And so will you be. A new way of life

He is risen. 💙🌅

Good Friday is complicated when you are already grieving.

When the liturgy of death and loss overlaps with your actual death and loss - when the sanctuary holds both the story of Jesus and the story of someone you loved - it can be almost too much to hold.

You may not be able to separate the two this weekend. You may not need to.

Maybe the gift of Good Friday for those who grieve is simply this:

*You do not have to pretend here.*

The cross was not clean or tidy or resolved. It was messy and loud and then terribly silent. And the people who loved Jesus did not know Sunday was coming.

Neither do we - not really - when grief is fresh.

So if this weekend finds you in the rawness of loss, you are in the most honest place there is on Good Friday.

You belong here. Your grief belongs here.

A permission slip for this weekend:

**You are allowed to let Holy Week hold your personal grief. You do not have to keep them separate.**

There is a kind of ministry that doesn't make it into the highlight reel.

Sitting with someone as they die.

Holding a hand when there are no more words. Being present in a room where the air has shifted and everyone knows what is coming. Staying when every human instinct says to look away.

This is some of the holiest work there is.

And it costs something that nobody talks about. The weight of it follows you home. It lives in your body. It changes the way you see time, and urgency, and what actually matters.

If you are in this season right now - accompanying someone toward death, or still carrying the grief of having done so -

*You are not doing it wrong if it is heavy.*

*You are not failing if you need help carrying it.*

End of life coaching, spiritual direction, healing touch and honest conversation exist for exactly this. You do not have to process the sacred weight of this work alone.

This week everything changes.

If you are in ministry or “church life” in the Christian realm, you already know - Holy Week is one of the most demanding stretches of the entire year. The services, the sermons, the pastoral care, the music, the logistics. The weight of holding space for everyone else's journey toward the cross.

This week's map question is simple and serious:
How will you stay connected to yourself while you lead everyone else through this?

Not just connected to your calendar. Not just connected to your sermon notes.

Connected to your body. Your breath. Your own grief and your own hope.

You cannot lead people somewhere you have not gone yourself.

Find your way Friday

Practical wisdom for the weekend. A practice, a prompt, or a permission slip…

Your permission slip for this weekend:

You are allowed to rest before you're desperate.
Not after the crash. Not when your body forces you to stop. Before.

This weekend try one thing: block two hours that belong to no one. No productivity. No work. No catching up. Just you - your body, your breath, whatever restores you.

If two hours feels impossible, start with 20 minutes and notice what comes up when you stop moving.

Your body keeps the score. It also keeps the wisdom.

Sunday is Palm Sunday. If you are in the church world you are about to give a lot.

Wednesday Wanderings/wonderings

Wanderings are for the questions that don't have easy answers. The ones worth sitting with.

What if the wilderness wasn't the problem?

Jesus didn't rush through the desert. He was led there. And something happened in that strange, stripped-down place that couldn't have happened anywhere else.

A lot of us are in a wilderness right now - in our ministries, our relationships, our sense of calling. And everything in us wants to get out.

But what if the wilderness is doing something in you that the promised land can't?

What is the desert teaching you that you couldn't learn anywhere else?

Wander with that today. 🌿

Monday Maps.
The journey doesn't always feel like progress.

Some days you're moving forward. Some days you're circling back. Some days you're sitting still, and it feels like failure.

But what the wilderness teaches is something more profound …circling back isn't backsliding. It's deepening.

This week's map: notice where you're revisiting old territory. That boundary you thought you'd mastered. That rest you thought you'd learned to take. That truth you keep having to remember.

You're not failing. You're spiraling deeper into wisdom. Each time around, you see it differently. Understand it more fully. Embody it more completely.
