We're still reflecting on the incredible stories shared during BASS Medical Group's Gregory Rhodes MD Cancer Center Cancer Survivors Day celebration.

One of the most moving moments came from Jody, who shared her personal journey through cancer. Her story was a powerful reminder that cancer can affect anyone, often when it's least expected. It also highlighted the hope that comes from perseverance, medical innovation, and the support of family, friends, and healthcare teams.

Thank you, Jody, for your courage and for inspiring everyone who attended.
We're grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating survivorship, honoring caregivers, and strengthening the sense of community that makes events like these so meaningful.

🤖 Many people are now turning to AI before they turn to Google when they have a new symptom or health concern.
AI can be a helpful tool for learning about medical conditions, understanding terminology, or preparing questions for your healthcare provider. But it also has important limitations.
It can't perform a physical exam, order tests, understand every detail of your medical history, or replace the clinical judgment of a healthcare professional. It's also important to remember that not every AI platform is designed to protect your personal health information.
Use AI to become a more informed patient, but when it comes to diagnosing or treating a medical condition, nothing replaces personalized medical care.

♿ July is Disability Pride Month.

Observed each July to commemorate the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, Disability Pride Month celebrates the contributions, achievements, and experiences of people living with disabilities while promoting accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity.

This year's theme, "The World Works Better With Us," reminds us that communities are stronger when everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.

At BASS Medical Group, we're proud to support compassionate, accessible healthcare for every patient.

🍋☀️ If you've been watching The Pitt, you may have seen a patient diagnosed with "margarita burn." While it sounds unusual, it's actually a real skin condition called phytophotodermatitis.
It occurs when the juices from certain fruits or plants come into contact with your skin and are then exposed to sunlight. While limes are the most well-known culprit, lemons, celery, parsley, figs, and other plants can trigger the same reaction.
If you're spending time outdoors this summer, wash your hands and any exposed skin after handling these foods, then apply sunscreen before heading into the sun.
A little awareness can help you avoid an uncomfortable summer surprise!

☀️ As temperatures rise, it's important to recognize the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
While heat exhaustion can often improve with rest, cooling down, and hydration, heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate treatment.
🚨 If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department. Early treatment can help prevent serious complications.
Take a moment to review the signs so you know what to look for this summer.

🌊 Planning a beach vacation this summer?
If you're traveling to destinations like Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or other coastal areas, you may find that certain sunscreens are restricted to help protect coral reefs and marine ecosystems.
The good news is that mineral (reef-friendly) sunscreens provide excellent sun protection when used correctly, so you don't have to sacrifice safety while enjoying the outdoors.
Before you pack, take a moment to check local sunscreen regulations so you can protect both your skin and the environment.
