Knee and hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic condition that causes pain and stiffness. While joint replacement surgery may help, it is not a viable option for everyone.

Through a PCORI-funded study consisting of 2 patient-centered CER studies, a research team compared 3 ways to make OA treatment decisions:
1️⃣ A custom decision support report alone
2️⃣ A custom decision report plus online group health coaching sessions
3️⃣ Usual care

A PCORI-funded randomized clinical trial compared two school-based programs for preventing cavities:

1️⃣ Standard program: sealant and a fluoride varnish
2️⃣ New program: topical silver diamine fluoride and a fluoride varnish

The new program took less time than the standard program and could be performed effectively by school nurses. Study results showed that both programs worked about the same in controlling tooth decay and preventing new cavities.

Older adults with complex healthcare needs — such as those living with multiple chronic conditions and functional limitations — often face gaps in care coordination, which could affect their health outcomes.

A PCORI-funded randomized controlled trial is comparing 2 approaches to determine which is more effective for older adults:

1️⃣ Structured annual wellness visits (AWVs) in primary care practice

2️⃣ Structured AWVs enhanced with Geriatrics Resources for the Assessment and Care of Elders (GRACE), an interprofessional care delivery model that includes facilitating co-management between the GRACE and primary care teams
