Today is National PTSD Awareness Day.

PTSD is more than a memory. More than a diagnosis. More than what people often see on the surface.

It can show up as hypervigilance, anxiety, nightmares, emotional numbness, difficulty trusting others, irritability, avoidance, chronic guilt, or feeling constantly on edge. It can impact relationships, work, sleep, and everyday life.

Trauma changes the way the brain and nervous system respond to the world—but healing is possible.

On National PTSD Awareness Day, we recognize the strength of survivors and remind those who are struggling that they do not have to carry their experiences alone.

💚 Understand instead of judge.
💚 Support instead of dismiss.
💚 Empathize instead of minimize.
💚 Hold space for healing.

If you live with PTSD, please remember:

✨ Your reactions are not weakness.
✨ Your symptoms are not a personal failure.
✨ Your story matters.
✨ Recovery is possible, even when it feels slow.

Every step toward healing counts.

The way we connect with others doesn't happen by accident.

Our attachment style develops through our early experiences and relationships, shaping how we view ourselves, trust others, navigate conflict, and seek connection. While attachment patterns can influence our relationships, they are not permanent labels—and they can change with awareness, healing, and supportive relationships.

✨ Secure Attachment
Comfortable with both intimacy and independence. Trusts others, communicates openly, and feels worthy of love and connection.

✨ Anxious Attachment
Craves closeness but often fears rejection or abandonment. May seek reassurance and feel emotions intensely.

✨ Avoidant Attachment
Values independence and self-reliance. May feel uncomfortable with vulnerability, emotional closeness, or relying on others.

✨ Disorganized Attachment
Wants connection but also fears it. Often experiences a push-pull dynamic in relationships and may have a history of trauma or inconsistent caregiving.

The goal isn't to perfectly fit into one category. Most people see pieces of themselves in multiple attachment styles, and attachment can look different depending on the relationship.

🌿 The good news? Attachment patterns are adaptable.

Through self-awareness, healthy relationships, nervous system regulation, and therapy, it is possible to build greater security, trust, and connection.

Your attachment style explains some of your patterns—it does not determine your future.

Also known by the brand name Narcan®, naloxone is a medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose and restore breathing while emergency medical help is on the way.

The reality is that opioid overdoses can affect people from all walks of life. Whether it's a prescribed medication, counterfeit pill, accidental exposure, or substance use disorder, having naloxone available can make the difference between life and death.

What makes Narcan so important?

✨ It's safe and easy to use
✨ No medical training is required
✨ It can reverse an opioid overdose in minutes
✨ It has no effect if opioids are not present
✨ Anyone can carry it

If you suspect an opioid overdose:

1️⃣ Call 911 immediately
2️⃣ Administer naloxone/Narcan
3️⃣ Provide rescue breathing if trained
4️⃣ Stay with the person until help arrives

Carrying Narcan doesn't encourage substance use—it prepares you to respond to a medical emergency, just like carrying an EpiPen or knowing CPR.

At Discover Your Path, we believe that education, harm reduction, and compassion save lives.

💚 Be prepared.
💚 Reduce stigma.
💚 Carry Narcan.
💚 Save a life.

When emotions feel overwhelming, it can be hard to think clearly, solve problems, or use coping skills that require a lot of focus.

That's where TIPP skills come in.

TIPP is a set of DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills designed to help calm your nervous system quickly by working with your body first.

✨ T — Temperature
Cool your body with cold water, an ice pack, or holding ice to activate your body's calming response.

✨ I — Intense Exercise
Get your heart rate up with a quick burst of movement such as running in place, jumping jacks, dancing, or a brisk walk.

✨ P — Paced Breathing
Slow and deepen your breathing to send a message of safety to your nervous system.

✨ P — Progressive Muscle Relaxation
Tense and release muscle groups to reduce physical tension and create a sense of calm.

TIPP skills won't solve the problem causing the emotion, but they can help bring your nervous system back into a state where coping, problem-solving, and self-compassion become more accessible.

💚 A helpful reminder:
When emotions are at a 10/10, focus on regulating your body before trying to reason with your thoughts.

Change your body, change your emotions.

There is no prize for struggling alone.

For many people, taking medication for their mental health can feel scary, complicated, or even shameful because of the messages they've received from others. But the truth is:

Medication is not a weakness. It's a tool.

Just as someone might wear glasses to help them see or take medication to manage diabetes, mental health medication can be one part of a person's treatment and healing journey.

💚 Mental illness is real.
💚 Seeking help is a sign of strength.
💚 Medication can be life-changing for some people.
💚 Everyone's path to healing looks different.

Medication isn't about changing who you are. It's about reducing barriers that may be making it harder to function, cope, connect, or enjoy life.

For some people, medication is helpful. For others, different approaches may be a better fit. There is no one-size-fits-all answer—and there is no shame in using the tools that work for you.

A gentle reminder:

✨ Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health.
✨ You deserve support.
✨ You deserve to feel better.
✨ Progress matters more than perfection.

Let's continue breaking the stigma around mental health treatment and creating a world where seeking help is met with understanding, not judgment.

When people think of OCD, they often think of being organized, neat, or liking things a certain way.

But OCD is much more than that.

At its core, OCD involves a cycle of obsessions and compulsions:

🔹 Obsessions are intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, feelings, or urges that create significant anxiety or distress.

🔹 Compulsions are behaviors or mental rituals performed to reduce that anxiety or prevent something bad from happening.

The challenge is that while compulsions may bring temporary relief, they actually reinforce the OCD cycle, causing the obsessions to return again and again.

OCD can involve fears about:
• Harm coming to yourself or others
• Contamination or illness
• Making mistakes
• Relationships
• Morality or religion
• Sexual thoughts
• Health concerns
• The need for certainty

Many people with OCD recognize that their fears don't fully make sense—but the anxiety can feel impossible to ignore.

💚 If you've ever heard someone say, "I'm so OCD because I like things organized," remember that OCD is not a personality trait or preference. It is a complex mental health condition that can be exhausting, distressing, and life-altering.

With the right support, including therapies such as ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), people with OCD can learn to break free from the cycle and reclaim their lives.

Stress doesn't just affect your mind—it affects your entire body.

When stress becomes chronic, your nervous system can stay stuck in "survival mode," impacting everything from your sleep and digestion to your immune system and heart health.

You might notice:

🧠 Racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, or feeling constantly on edge

❤️ Increased heart rate, muscle tension, headaches, or elevated blood pressure

🌿 Digestive issues such as nausea, bloating, stomach aches, reflux, or changes in appetite

🫁 Shallow breathing, chest tightness, or feeling like you can't catch your breath

🛡️ More frequent illnesses, fatigue, or feeling run down

These symptoms are not "all in your head." Stress creates real physical changes in the body.

The good news? Small, consistent actions can help regulate your nervous system and reduce the impact of stress over time.

✨ Move your body
✨ Prioritize sleep
✨ Practice mindfulness
✨ Journal your thoughts
✨ Connect with supportive people

You don't have to eliminate all stress to feel better. Sometimes healing begins with giving your body the message: You are safe enough to slow down.
