“OK… but have you tried weaving?” 🧶

Fiber arts aren’t just for making pretty things. Repetitive, rhythmic activities like weaving can help calm the nervous system, improve focus, encourage mindfulness, and offer a gentle sense of accomplishment—one thread at a time.

Sometimes healing doesn’t start with having all the answers. Sometimes it starts with picking up some yarn.🩷

Confession: I may be the most hydrated therapist in North Dakota.

If you’ve ever met with me in person (or even virtually), you’ve probably noticed that I rarely arrive with just one beverage. Why have one drink when you can have three?

On any given day, my desk may feature:
☕ Coffee
🫖 Tea
💧 Water
🥤 Protein shake

Sometimes all at the same time.

Clients probably glance around and think, “How many drinks do you need?”

The answer is apparently: yes.

In my defense, I believe emotional support beverages are a legitimate therapeutic tool. While we work through life’s challenges, I may be strategically rotating between hydration, caffeine, and whatever mystery protein beverage seemed like a good idea that morning.

The good news is that this beverage enthusiasm extends to my clients, too. The office fridge is stocked with water, sparkling water, tea, caffeine, and other refreshments because therapy is hard enough without being thirsty.

So if you’re coming in for a session, know that you’ll be welcomed into a judgment-free zone… unless you’re trying to convince me that one beverage is enough.

That just sounds unrealistic.

For all the battles you’ve won that no one knows about…

The quiet ones.
The ones that didn’t get applause.
The moments you held yourself together when it would’ve been easier to fall apart.

That is resilience.

Not the highlight reel. Not the big, visible breakthroughs.
But the everyday courage to keep showing up — even when it’s hard, messy, or unseen.

If you’re in a season where it feels like no one notices how much effort it takes just to get through the day… this is your reminder:

It counts.
You count.
And your strength is real — even when it’s quiet.

Take a moment today to honor how far you’ve come. 💛

💛
This might just look like storage… but at Inner Canvas Counseling, it’s so much more.
💛
Inside these cabinets and drawers are representations of moments of courage, grief, healing, growth, and everything in between. With around 100 clients on the caseload at any given moment, every single piece of artwork represents someone who showed up, trusted the process, and put something real onto the page.
💛
Maintaining this system with care and confidentiality is a responsibility I take seriously. Creating a space where all of this can be held safely, respectfully, and intentionally matters just as much as what happens in the session itself.
💛
This is one of the quiet parts of being an art therapist that people don’t always see… but one that I’m incredibly proud of it. It’s a behind-the-scenes part of the job that matters so much. Because caring for the artwork is part of caring for the person who created it.
💛
