We should have done this sooner!

Many adult children find it difficult to have conversations with parents about making a move to assisted living and therefore delay the move. Although change is hard, there are many benefits that often are overlooked and lead to elders wishing they had made the decision earlier.
Most know there are standard care benefits like medication management, bathing support, and help if there is a fall offered at assisted living communities but there are also benefits that are even more beneficial for improving quality of life.
Secondary (but none less important) benefits are:
1. Having people around and scheduled activities combats depression for many. There is joy and laughter once again!
2. Food is a major part of our lives but seniors often lose the desire to cook or eat and the effects are devastating. Nutritional meals not only have health benefits but most enjoy a restaurant dining experience with social benefits as well. It’s like going out for dinner every single day!
3. Many feel downsizing will be the hardest part of a move but often actually find it to be liberating. Going thru a lifetime of things offers a chance to revisit memories and capture those that are most important. We have the memories, we don’t need the stuff.
Many that have already made a move to assisted living often wish they had made the move sooner! If you’d like more resources to help with a conversation, call Prairie Homestead at (316) 201-6505.

For nearly 60 years, Prairie Homestead has been proud to call Wichita home. ❤️

We’re not part of a large national chain—we’re a local community that has been serving older adults and families right here in our neighborhood since 1966. Generations of residents, families, team members, and friends have helped shape who we are today.

Choosing a senior living community is about more than finding a place to live—it’s about finding a place that feels familiar, connected, and close to the life you already know. At Prairie Homestead, residents stay in the community they love while gaining the support, friendships, and peace of mind they deserve.

Thank you, Wichita, for allowing us to be part of your story for nearly 60 years. We’re honored to continue serving our community for many years to come.

At Prairie Homestead, we often talk about the wonderful place we call home, but what truly makes our community special is the people who fill it with life.

We are incredibly blessed to have the most amazing residents and families. Your kindness, encouragement, support, and friendships create an atmosphere that feels more like family than simply a retirement community. Whether it's sharing a smile in the hallway, lending a helping hand, attending an event, or supporting one another through life's ups and downs, you make Prairie Homestead a place we are proud to call home.

Thank you for trusting us, believing in our mission, and being part of this incredible community. We truly have THE BEST residents and families, and we are grateful for each and every one of you. ❤️
