August is National Eye Exam Month 👁️

Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one is welcome to attend today’s Bereavement Support Group from 4:00–5:00 PM in Wichita. You do not have to walk through grief alone.💚

Grief doesn't follow a timeline, and you don't have to navigate it alone. 🫂

Our monthly Bereavement Support Group meets today and is open to anyone in the community who has experienced the loss of a loved one, whether that loss was recent or years ago.

Led by our Bereavement Coordinator, Linda, this is a welcoming space to share, listen, and find support alongside others who understand.

As temperatures rise and UV exposure increases, it’s important to take simple steps to help protect older adults from sun-related risks like sunburn, dehydration, and heat exhaustion.

When spending time outdoors, remember to:
🧴 Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
🧢 Wear a hat and lightweight protective clothing
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
🌳 Limit direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours

☀️ Kansas summer heat can be especially dangerous for older adults.

As temperatures rise, seniors may have a harder time recognizing when they are overheating or becoming dehydrated. Certain health conditions and medications can also make it more difficult for the body to cool down properly.

Families and caregivers should watch for signs such as:

⚠️ Unusual tiredness or weakness
⚠️ Dizziness, headaches, or confusion
⚠️ Nausea or a fast heartbeat
⚠️ Flushed, hot, or unusually dry skin

Help keep your loved ones safe by encouraging regular water breaks, limiting time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and making sure their living space stays cool and comfortable.
