Resilience

A word often used in health coaching, but what does it really mean?

Many people think resilience means being strong all the time.

In reality, resilience is often much quieter than that.

It’s adapting when things don’t go to plan.
It’s getting back up after a setback.
It’s asking for support when you need it.
It’s taking a break and starting again tomorrow.

Resilience isn’t about never struggling. It’s about finding ways to keep moving forward, even when life feels challenging.

On this rainy Tuesday, remember:

You don’t have to be at your best every day.

Sometimes resilience is simply putting one foot in front of the other, doing what you can, and trusting that brighter days will come.

Health Coaching Words Explained ✨

Self-Compassion

A phrase used in health coaching that means treating yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer someone else.

Many people are supportive towards others…
yet incredibly hard on themselves.

Self-compassion is not “giving up” or making excuses.

It’s recognising that:
💚 difficult days happen,
💚 setbacks are normal,
💚 rest is important,
💚 and you are still worthy even when you’re tired, overwhelmed, or not operating at 100%.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do on a Saturday is slow down, recharge, and stop speaking to yourself so harshly.

Weekend reminder:
you do not have to earn rest.

Mindful Eating

A phrase often used in health coaching that means paying attention to your food with awareness, rather than eating on autopilot.

It’s about noticing:
🥗 hunger and fullness,
☕ taste and enjoyment,
💚 emotions around food,
and how different foods make you feel.

Mindful eating isn’t about perfection or restriction.

Sometimes it simply means slowing down enough to actually enjoy your lunch,
instead of eating while answering emails, standing in the kitchen, or rushing through the day.

Food is allowed to nourish both body and mind.

Foody Friday reminder:
eating well is not about being perfect, it’s about building a healthier relationship with food, one small step at a time.

A phrase used in health coaching that simply means:�believing in your ability to do something. In other words “I believe I can handle this.”

Self-efficacy grows through small achievable steps, not perfection.
Every time you:�💚 keep a promise to yourself,�💚 make a healthier choice,�💚 cope with a difficult day,�💚 or try again after a setback…
you build confidence in yourself. Many people think motivation comes first.�However often confidence grows AFTER action.
Small wins matter more than we realise.

So if you’re struggling today, remember: you do not need to have everything figured out to take the next small step forward.

Always remember the truth is:

Often, the moments people remember most are the laughter, the atmosphere, the love, and the people sharing the day with you.

Health Coaching Words Explained ✨

Progress Over Perfection

A phrase often used in health coaching to encourage consistency rather than unrealistic standards. It means focusing on the small steps forward instead of expecting yourself to get everything “right” all of the time.

Healthy change is rarely perfect.
Life happens.
Motivation changes.
Plans shift.

However progress still counts so if your plan goes array don’t be harsh on yourself. Acknowledge where your are, and what needs to happen, then plan the next step.

Examples of progress are:
Choosing a short walk, drinking more water, or taking a moment to breathe still matters, even if the whole day didn’t go exactly to plan.

Small steps are still steps forward.

What Health Coaches Really Mean When We Say…

This week I’m exploring common words and phrases often used in health coaching, and what they actually mean in everyday life.

You may have heard terms like:
✨ “Sustainable changes”
✨ “Self-efficacy”
✨ “Ambivalence”

Are you left thinking what do they really mean, and why do they matter?

Health coaching isn’t about complicated jargon or perfection. Often, these phrases simply describe very human experiences around habits, confidence, motivation, stress, and change.

So this week I’ll be breaking some of them down into simple, relatable explanations.

☀️ Bank Holiday Monday vibes…

The housework isn’t going anywhere.
The to-do list can chill for a bit, but someone is definitely living their best life in the sunshine today 🌼🐾

Just a little reminder that slowing down, getting outside, having a laugh and enjoying the simple stuff is good for wellbeing too.

Fresh air, sunshine and nature can work wonders for the mind, even if today doesn’t look super productive.

Just don’t forget:
☀️ sunscreen
💧 plenty of water
🌿 a bit of shade when you need it

Now excuse me while I go save the flower beds…
