๐ŸŽ This week, some of our team attended the Paradise Lagoon Campdraft โ€“ National Finals as part of our research project exploring the role of campdrafting in rural and remote communities.

The โ€œCampdrafting in Rural Australia: Economic, Social, Cultural, and Health Benefits for Rural and Remote Communitiesโ€ study, led by researchers from James Cook University, aims to better understand:

๐Ÿด Who participates in campdrafting and why
๐Ÿด The economic and cultural impact of campdrafting on rural communities
๐Ÿด The health and wellbeing benefits of involvement in the sport
๐Ÿด How campdrafting events are supported through training, horsemanship, and local infrastructure

Their insights will help highlight the value of campdrafting in rural communities and inform future rural health and sport policy.

We are incredibly grateful to the Paradise Lagoons Campdraft 2026 organisers, committee, competitors, and wider community for warmly welcoming us to your event and supporting this important research.

If you are interested in participating in this research, please contact us via our page. ๐Ÿค

โœณ Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming JCU: James Cook University, Australia Vice Chancellor, Professor Simon Biggs, and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education), Professor Mitch Parsell, during their visit to Emerald.

This was a unique and valuable opportunity to connect with the staff and students currently undertaking placements in Emerald and to have meaningful discussions around rural opportunities, community immersion, and the importance of supporting the future rural health workforce.

We were also proud to showcase our Centre and highlight the work being done to support students and strengthen rural health pathways.

During their visit, Professor Biggs and Professor Parsell also met with key stakeholders across Emerald and Clermont to discuss rural health priorities, workforce development, and the importance of collaborative partnerships in regional communities.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and engage with our staff, students, and community. We look forward to continuing to strengthen opportunities for rural health education and workforce development.

Staff and students attended the Callide Valley Show last week โ€” one of the districtโ€™s premier annual events, held every May at the Biloela Showgrounds.

Run by the dedicated volunteers of the Callide Valley Agricultural & Pastoral Society Inc., the Show has been bringing the community together and showcasing local livestock, produce and craftsmanship for 90 years.

With two days of non-stop action and entertainment, weโ€™re already looking forward to the next Callide Valley Show! ๐Ÿ”ถ

๐Ÿ“šStaff from James Cook University CQCRRH attended the Emerald Careers Expo today with students from high schools across the Central Highlands region coming together to explore future career and study opportunities.

The expo provided students with valuable insight into a wide range of industries, employers and tertiary education pathways, helping inspire and inform their future career choices. It was fantastic to see so many young people engaging with exhibitors and learning more about the opportunities available both locally and beyond.๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ

It is always exciting to have new students join our community, and we hope your placement experience here is both rewarding and enjoyable. The Central Highlands offers a wonderful opportunity to learn, grow professionally, and become part of a supportive rural health community.
