When 22-year-old PJ Elasmar suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while driving on Bell Street, everything aligned to save his life.

Austin Health staff, first responders and clinicians in our Intensive Care Unit worked together to give him a second chance. Today, PJ has a new perspective on life and is grateful for every moment.

For a limited time, every donation to our Tax Appeal will be matched dollar-for-dollar by two generous anonymous donors, up to $80,000.

❤️ Double your impact today.

Today, we gathered for a Smoking Ceremony to acknowledge National Sorry Day and reflect on the ongoing impacts of the Stolen Generations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The ceremony created a space for healing, reflection and reconciliation, while recognising the strength and resilience of First Nations communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in this important moment of reflection and shared commitment to culturally safe care.

For National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the volunteers who help create moments of connection, kindness and comfort across Austin Health. 💜

Inspired by stories from his mum and grandmother, 19-year-old Winter began volunteering earlier this year in a patient companionship role in Ward 9 at the Repat.

Volunteering has helped Winter grow in confidence and strengthened his ability to connect with others. He’s also brought creativity into his role through music, playing piano for patients and introducing a vintage record player to help spark memories and conversation.

“Seeing patients drift off and reminisce makes me know that I am providing them something special. I get something out of that too.”

For Winter, volunteering is “one of the most rewarding and impactful things you could do for your community.”

In healthcare, inclusion can have a real impact on a person’s wellbeing and experience of care. Feeling safe, respected and seen matters.

Today is IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia.

We stand with LGBTIQA+ patients, staff and community members, and reaffirm our commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for everyone. 🌈

Today, and every day, we celebrate the compassion, strength, skill and dedication of our nursing workforce.

Nurses are there for people through some of life’s most challenging and vulnerable moments, bringing not only clinical expertise, but kindness, reassurance and humanity to every interaction.

Thank you for the care you provide, the lives you impact, and the future of healthcare you help shape - often in ways that patients and families will never forget.

And to those considering a future in nursing: we hope these words inspire you!

Happy International Nurses Day to all of our incredible nurses 💜
