Women's birth choices are being limited.

This is a human rights issue. An issue that affects everyone regardless of where you feel safest giving birth.

📣 THE FUTURE OF HOMEBIRTH IS AT STAKE. WE NEED YOU.

On 1 January 2027, the current exemption allowing second midwives to attend homebirths is due to end.

Homebirth Australia is calling for an urgent temporary solution before this deadline, so second midwives can continue attending homebirths, followed by a permanent, affordable insurance solution in 2027.

We've been told this isn't going to happen. We believe that only an extraordinary show of public pressure can turn the tide. We need to demonstrate just how much this matters to Australian families, midwives and communities.

I hear it a lot, usually from women looking back on their last birth. An option you weren't told about isn't a choice you made.

The job of your maternity care provider is to provide you with ALL your options. Your job is to make the decision.

I packed my Village shirt and went to New Zealand for a couple of weeks... Unofficially.

A friend had a baby, so I went to be her village for a bit. I'd love to tell you I did something clever, but it was mostly...
Cooking. Filling the freezer. Cleaning. Baby cuddles in the sun. A lot of chats about nothing really.

We also went out for coffee and a picnic, all of us, which is not what the book on slide three would tell you to do. It's what she wanted, so it's what we did.

None of it needed a midwife. It needed someone in the kitchen who didn't need looking after.

I wish every woman's postpartum looked like that. Most don't, and that's not on the women. 🤍

So we built it. 🤍

When I had my daughter and Kathleen had her son, we went looking for our village and couldn't find one. Plenty of appointments, nowhere to actually sit down.

Turns out a lot of you were looking for the same thing.

You run meetings. You manage teams. You're the one people ring when something goes wrong. 🤍
And now you're up at night googling whether that twinge is normal.
It's not that you've stopped being capable. It's that this is the first thing in years where working harder doesn't guarantee you'll get it right... and that's unsettling.
You don't need to know everything. You just need people a few steps ahead who'll tell you what's normal and let you make the calls.

Getting back into exercise after a break is rarely as simple as just showing up to a class. 🤍
