CAIRS (Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments) is an innovative corneal procedure treatment that uses donated corneal tissue to help reshape and strengthen the cornea in suitable patients with Keratoconus, with the aim of improving vision and potentially delaying the need for a corneal transplant for suitable patients.👁️

Dr Simone Beheregaray, a consulting ophthalmologist at Adelaide Eye & Laser Centre, has expertise in advising and performing this procedure. She is able to perform it at ParkView Day Surgery , our affiliated day surgery which is located in the same building, and is one of South Australia's only private centres that is able to provide suitable patients this treatment option.

Adelaide Eye & Laser Centre is excited to welcome Dr Bobak Bahrami to our team of consulting ophthalmologists and eye surgeons.👁️

After completing his Medical Degree at the University of Adelaide, Dr. Bahrami undertook a PhD in diabetic eye disease at the University of Sydney. He subsequently completed his Ophthalmology surgical training in South Australia. Bobak then undertook two subspecialty surgical fellowships; in Cataract and Refractive Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide and in Corneal Surgery at Bristol Eye Hospital, United Kingdom. He is experienced in all aspects of corneal, cataract, laser and refractive surgery.

Today is World Ophthalmologist Day! 👁️

It honors medical and surgical eye specialists who diagnose, treat, and perform complex procedures to preserve and restore the gift of sight.

The date was chosen to honor the birthdate of Svyatoslav Fyodorov (born August 8, 1927), a pioneering Soviet eye surgeon who revolutionised modern ophthalmology.

But we would like to take this opportunity to honour the amazing ophthalmologists that take care of our patient community!

Last week alongside Dr David Sia of Pennington Eye Clinic, and Dr Mark Hassall of Kingswood Eye Centre hosted the 2026 Optometry Seminar at Aurora Skydeck in the city.

With over 80 optometrists attending, it was a fun, entertaining and highly ediucational evening. Each of the eye doctors spoke on their subspecialty including:

👁️ Minimally Invasive Glaucoma (MIGS) By Dr Mark Hassall
👁️ When the bag won't hold: Modern approaches to secondary IOL implantation by Dr David Sia
👁️ Fixing unhappy patients by Dr Ben Lahood

This was followed by a truly interactive panel discussion where tricky cases were presented and then discussed by both the doctors and members of the audience!

A big thank you to all who attended including those who submitted and presented cases. 😀

How can this breakthrough treatment slow or stop Keratoconus progression? 🤔

Being diagnosed with keratoconus can feel overwhelming. 😔
