TMS Life We also assess individuals with other complex mental health presentations to determine whether TMS may be appropriate as part of their care.

Ottawa Deep TMS clinic led by psychiatrist Dr. Chris Taplin, providing advanced treatment options for depression, OCD, Veterans and complex mental health needs. TMS Life is an Ottawa mental health clinic specializing in advanced treatment options for people who continue to struggle despite traditional medication and psychotherapy. Led by Founder and Chief Psychiatrist Dr. Chris Taplin, MD, FRCPC, TMS Life provides Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS), individualized treatment planning and accelerated treatment options. Our clinic works extensively with people living with treatment-resistant depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as Veterans, CAF members and RCMP members seeking advanced mental health treatment options. Deep TMS is non-invasive, requires no anaesthesia and allows patients to remain awake and alert during treatment. Our approach is individualized, evidence-informed and designed to help patients better understand their treatment options when conventional approaches have not provided sufficient relief. No referral is required to begin a consultation.

Celebrating 1 year at TMS Life with Brooke Beauvais, RPN.

Brooke is a Registered Practical Nurse with a background in mental health and emergency care. She joined TMS Life to be part of a treatment approach that gives patients another option in their mental health care.

Her clinical experience shows in how she works: empathetic, respectful, and professional. She aims to create a calm, judgment-free space where patients feel heard and supported during treatment.

Outside the clinic, you'll find Brooke playing flute or piano, cooking, trying new coffee recipes, or spending quiet time at home with her dog and cat.

Thank you for the care you bring to our patients, Brooke. Congratulations on your first year!

Before TMS treatment begins at TMS Life, many patients complete a qEEG, a recording of the brain’s electrical activity.

A soft cap containing small electrodes is placed on the head. The recording includes periods with the eyes open and closed, along with a simple response task using a handheld button.

The qEEG provides baseline information that our clinical team considers alongside each patient’s symptoms, medical history and broader clinical assessment.

The full appointment takes approximately one hour, with much of that time devoted to carefully fitting the cap and preparing the electrodes. When clinically appropriate, a follow-up qEEG may be offered approximately four weeks after treatment for comparison.

For some patients, reviewing the results can provide helpful context for what they have been experiencing.

Yvonne McLeod has been a Registered Nurse for more than 23 years, and she now leads clinical care at TMS Life.

Her nursing background spans mental health, harm reduction, obstetrics and critical care. That range of experience shapes how she supports patients during a course of Deep TMS. Yvonne checks in with patients throughout treatment, answers questions as they come up, and makes sure any concerns are addressed.

She is committed to care that is safe, attentive and compassionate for every person who comes through our doors.

Away from the clinic, Yvonne spends time outdoors with her family, cooks, explores new music, and can often be found paddling on a lake or practising yoga at home.

Thinking about Deep TMS, but not sure where to start?

The first step is simply a conversation. Reaching out to TMS Life doesn’t commit you to treatment, it’s an opportunity to ask questions and understand your options.

Here’s what the path generally looks like:

1. Talk with our team. Learn the basics of TMS, the treatment protocols we offer, and what to know about costs and available coverage.
2. Complete a focused mental health assessment and TMS safety screening to help determine whether TMS may be appropriate for you.
3. If TMS is a fit, your treatment plan is individualized, with ongoing support and regular check-ins along the way.

Every treatment journey is different. Our goal is for you, and, if you choose, your family—to feel informed and supported.

Questions are always welcome. Contact us Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 613-383-2867 or through our contact form: https://tmslife.com/contact-us/

OCD can affect far more than what others see.

Intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviours, and mental rituals can take up time and interfere with daily life, relationships, work, and school. These experiences deserve understanding and compassionate care.

For people whose symptoms persist despite treatment, exploring additional options starts with a conversation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Swipe to learn where Deep TMS may fit into OCD care and why an individual clinical assessment matters.

We’re grateful this patient trusted us with their story, and took the time to recognize Dr. Taplin and the TMS Life team.

Following their Accelerated Protocol, Dr. Taplin reviewed their progress and recommended a 12-week TMS maintenance program that included iTBS and cTBS sessions.

They also spoke about the calm, safe environment they found here. We’re thankful to everyone on the team who helped create that experience.

Swipe to read their words. This is one person’s experience; treatment plans and responses vary.

A weekend filled with connection, community, and so many meaningful dedications.

TMS Life was proud to be part of Canada Army Run this weekend.

At our booth, we invited participants to dedicate their run to someone they love. Watching the wall fill with names, messages and personal dedications was a powerful reminder of how much meaning can be carried through a single run.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to meet our team, share a dedication and connect with us.

And congratulations to all of this year’s Canada Army Run participants. 🇨🇦

Earlier this summer, Dr. Chris Frueh visited Ottawa to speak about his work on Operator Syndrome and the complex physical and psychological health challenges experienced by some Veterans and military personnel.

Dr. Chris Taplin has continued exploring that work through Dr. Frueh’s research and writing.

At TMS Life, continuing education is part of clinical practice, staying curious, examining emerging research, and continuing to ask better questions about mental health and brain health.

TMS Life was pleased to support Dr. Frueh’s Ottawa visit earlier this summer.
