We are happy to welcome Tayah Davies to our team this summer ☀️

Tayah joins us as a recent graduate at the University of Guelph in Biological Sciences, with the hopes of furthering her studies in Physiotherapy.

Tayah will be assisting at the desk, with classes and doing some shadowing in appointments.

Before we do this giveaway, we need your help! Our team has grown tremendously in the last seven years, and we’re actively looking for pelvic health physiotherapists and orthopaedic physiotherapists to join our incredible team.

As always, every tag/comment is a chance to win, but we’d be incredibly grateful if you would share this post, and tag any physiotherapists you know, especially ones who need a change of scenery and would thrive in our incredible team!

Winners are getting drawn this afternoon!

To kick off Mental Health week we had Stephanie from Connect Rehabilitation join our Healthy baby group to walk us through some stretches and simple yoga poses to help with our postpartum journey. Taking care of yourself, both mentally and physically, is one of the most important things you can do for yourself as a new mom. This will help you have the energy you need to take care of your baby. Thanks again Stephanie!

Did you know that we (jokingly) made one of our hiring criteria having a dog? We’ve since opened it up to dog lovers who are not yet dog owners, but the ever-growing pack is evidence of what like-minded people come together to do!

Today is the second-last day to enter our giveaway contest! More comments = more entries, and we’ll do all the draws tomorrow!

Our team is fairly split between people who can actually golf and people who can’t, but you better believe that 100% of this team is here for a good time when we get out on the course together. From putting with oven mitts to the Happy Gilmore hole, you will find nothing but smiles on our annual team golf day!

In February and March 2020, CONNECT was ticking right along. We had started our Barbells4Bones program and were prepared to start expanding it, our clinical caseloads were busy, Nick had joined the team and James was soon to start.

And we all know what happened over March Break.

10 months after opening our doors were closed for what would be an indeterminate amount of time, with unclear restrictions on our business when we were going to be able to reopen, and limited understanding of the risks involved. Our classes were suspended, we moved much of our business online, and tried to keep our community engaged with our Larger Than Lockdown series (which mostly kept Clare busy).

Three months later we would partially reopen, and in January 2021 Barbells4Bones finally got to start it’s gradual expansion. We went from our small original class to now 10 classes/week and over 70 women involved in the program (including some of the original members!)

While the pandemic was an unexpected speed bump in our growth, it ended up being an excellent lesson in sticking to our values and continuing to let them guide our decision making. While we’ll never say we’re grateful for the experience, we can definitely say we learned a few things!

Once upon a time, we needed to get all of our gym equipment for CONNECT. We had already had treatment beds delivered, our MASSIVE IKEA shipment had arrived (and been partially assembled thanks to our very patient families), but delivering the gym equipment was going to cost over $1000 because of the weight of everything that needed to be shipped.

But for $100 and an adventure, we could rent the biggest U-Haul we could find (not because we needed a huge truck, but because we had 6000+lbs of equipment and flooring), drive to Barrie, and do it ourselves.

And that’s what we did.

We bribed family to be there when we got back to unload the truck, and we paid them in pizza and beer as we schlepped each individual floor mat (that weigh 100lbs each) into the clinic and placed them in the gym where they live today.

All of a sudden, the space was looking more and more like the space we dreamed of, and luckily we got it all done that weekend, because we opened our doors just a few days later (“opened our doors” in the most figurative sense, because none of our treatment rooms actually had doors when we opened, another fond memory!)
