You can learn a lot about a veterinarian by looking at their workstation…

We investigated what our vets keep above their desks and this is what is we found.

Dr Donna: sentimental maximalist. Everything has a story.
Dr Emma: clinically prepared for anything — including a literature review and a dachshund.
Dr Claire: part veterinarian, part curator of meaningful objects.
Dr Bavitra: minimalist. Calm. Has a rock. We respect it.

Four vets. Four very different workstations.
Same goal: taking the best possible care of your pets.

Which workstation are you??

Dr Donna: The curated chaos.
A little luxury fragrance, sentimental cards, a graduation teddy bear, approximately 47 tiny treasures… and, naturally, a stethoscope. Somehow everything has a story.

Dr Emma: The prepared-for-anything one.
Pens? ✔️
Research papers? ✔️
Chewing gum? ✔️
Tiny animal friends? ✔️
Stethoscope ready to go? ✔️
Basically, if an emergency meeting, a literature review and a dachshund showed up simultaneously, Emma would be prepared.

Dr Claire: The emotional support workstation.
Honey and Peanut butter. Photos. Children’s artwork. Harry Potter’s Challenge Cup. A giant bowl of… things. ❤️
Equal parts veterinarian, sentimental human and person who clearly cannot throw anything away if it has a memory attached to it.

Dr Bavitra: The minimalist.
A few carefully chosen treasures. A rock. Some tiny woodland creatures. A cute dog card. Everything has a place.
We suspect she is the only one who could actually clear her entire workstation in under five minutes.

It’s hard to believe how much YSAH has changed since we first opened our doors in 2016.

From our original clinic, to the many changes we made along the way, to our new home in 2025 — every chapter has helped shape who we are today.

For us, growth has never been about simply becoming bigger. It’s about becoming better.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and excited for what’s ahead. Thank you as always for being part of our journey.

For 10 years, YSAH has been shaped by the people who have walked through our doors.

Veterinarians, RVTs, CSRs, assistants, and students have learned, grown and found their place in veterinary medicine and beyond with us.

Some have stayed for years. Others have moved on to new chapters — but every person has left something behind: a lesson, a friendship, a patient cared for, or someone inspired.

And one of our greatest joys? Watching former students become colleagues.

To everyone who has been part of YSAH over the past decade: thank you. You helped make us who we are today.

Happy International Cat Day!

Behind every cat-loving veterinary team is, of course, a collection of cats who have absolutely no idea how qualified we are.

Today we’re celebrating a few of the feline members of the Yonge Sheppard family — the ones who keep us humble, entertained, and permanently covered in cat hair.

This month, we’re celebrating a very special milestone—10 years of Yonge Sheppard Animal Hospital!

Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or you’ve only recently discovered our hospital, we thought we’d start by introducing ourselves.

Ten years ago, we took a leap into practice ownership with a vision of creating a warm, welcoming hospital where pets would receive exceptional, personalized care. Along the way, we’ve grown, moved into a new clinic, expanded our team, and welcomed one very important staff member—Kevin, our resident clinic cat. 🐱

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing some favourite memories and milestones from the past decade. Thank you for being part of our story. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day from all of us at Yonge Sheppard Animal Hospital!

Sharing some recent photos of Dr. Donna, Dr. Claire and Dr. Bavitra in beautiful PEI attending the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Conference. It was a wonderful few days of learning, sharing ideas with colleagues from across the country, and bringing home new knowledge for our patients and clients. We also managed to squeeze in a little time to enjoy the stunning beauty and warm hospitality of Prince Edward Island—what a wonderful place to visit!

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible team back home.

A huge thank you to Dr. Emma and Dr. Emily for caring for our patients while we were away, and to our team who kept everything running smoothly.

Today, as we celebrate Canada Day, we’re especially grateful to be part of such a supportive veterinary community and to care for the wonderful pets and families who trust us every day. See you all back in the clinic tomorrow! 🇨🇦

One of the highlights of Dr Chui’s recent trip to Tokyo was visiting the Hachikō statue outside Shibuya Station.

Hachikō’s story is legendary. After his owner passed away unexpectedly, he continued to wait at the train station every day for years, becoming a symbol of loyalty and devotion around the world.

What many people don’t realize is that Hachikō was later found to have severe heartworm disease, a condition that remains a risk for dogs today.

As we enter heartworm prevention season in Ontario, his story is a reminder that some of the most important acts of love are the simple preventive measures that help keep our pets healthy and protected.

Heartworm disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause serious damage to the heart and lungs. Fortunately, prevention is safe, effective, and far easier than treating the disease itself.

Our dogs give us their unwavering loyalty. Preventive care is one of the ways we give that same commitment back.
