Today, on , we recognize the millions of people worldwide and thousands of Canadians living with sickle cell disease. We reaffirm the importance of awareness, advocacy, equitable care, and ongoing research. The day shines a light on the challenges faced by individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease while calling for greater understanding and improved access to care.

At SHN, we are committed to advancing care for people living with sickle cell disease through our growing adult clinic, our longstanding paediatric partnership with SickKids, participation in innovative clinical research, and continuous collaboration with patients, families, and Patient Family Advisors to help shape care experiences.

This year, Ontario Health highlighted SHN for effectively implementing the Sickle Cell Disease: Care for People of All Ages quality standard, as well as for being #1 in Ontario for physician assessment times for those presenting with sickle cell disease in the ED.

On World Sickle Cell Day, we stand with patients, families, caregivers, and advocates working toward a future with better outcomes and more equitable care for all.

Supporting patients through cancer care is not just about clinical treatment, it is about helping people navigate the emotional and practical challenges along the way.

As a patient navigator for colorectal and gastrointestinal cancers at SHN, Joy Abbas works closely with the care team to guide patients from diagnosis through treatment and beyond, helping to bridge gaps and ensure they feel supported at every step.
