If everything is irritating you lately, it may not be a sign that you’re losing patience. It may be a sign that you’re carrying more than you realise. 💭

The hardest part of grief isn’t always the loss itself. Sometimes it’s learning how to live in a world that keeps moving when your heart is still trying to catch up. 🤍

There is a difference between protecting your peace and disconnecting from reality.  There is also a difference between caring deeply and carrying everything.

Many people today seem to be living at one of these extremes.  The work is learning how to stay present.

Present to our emotions.  Present to our relationships.  Present to the realities of the world. without becoming numb or overwhelmed.

That balance may be one of the most important psychological skills we can develop in today’s world.

Your value doesn’t decrease because someone couldn’t communicate theirs. If someone’s behaviour is making you question your worth every day, stop asking how to make them stay and start asking why you’re staying. Difficult conversations are painful, but prolonged confusion is often worse.

If we don’t intentionally teach empathy, something else will fill that space. If we don’t teach compassion, children learn indifference. If we don’t teach accountability, they learn entitlement. If we don’t teach respect, they learn contempt.

The answer is not stricter punishments. The answer is stronger relationships, conversations, presence, modelling, accountability and community.

As a parent of four children, including two teenagers, I understand how difficult modern parenting can be. The pressures are immense. Many parents are exhausted. Many families are stretched. Many people are doing their absolute best but difficulty cannot become an excuse for disengagement.

Young people need adults who are willing to say:

“That isn’t who we are.”

Not because they’re afraid of consequences but because they understand the impact of their actions on another human being.

The question isn’t whether our children are losing empathy. The real question is:

What are we showing them empathy looks like? The next generation is watching us far more closely than they are listening to us. If we want kinder children, we must first build kinder homes, kinder schools, and kinder communities. The future of empathy begins with the example we set today.
