Here is Amy our newest family member who joined us on Monday
She has had a very full happy 103 years of life and she was very happy to share some of her memories with us
Born in 1923 in Islington in London
One of the youngest children with 4 siblings two older sisters,older brother and a younger sister
Amy and two sisters went to live in an orphanage for about 12 where they were quite happy
After leaving they returned home to their father oldest sister and brother. When Amy started working she worked in a hat shop for a while until she got a job as a telephonist which she really enjoyed
Amy loved to dance and went dancing at the Paramount dance hall in London her favourite dance was the Foxtrot, she also went to the cinema, her favourite film is Gone with the Wind
One of Amy’s sisters was in the land army and was living in Histon, she invited Amy to come and stay with her for a weekend which is where Amy met her beloved Derrick who was in the army but lived in Histon. They married in Cambridge shire hall and moved into a cottage on the green in Histon where their daughter Ruth was born, Amy said that Derrick was a Jack of all trades but enjoyed lorry driving.
When they were courting Derrick and Amy spent many day trips to Southend and as a family many happy holidays in Great Yarmouth. In Amy’s own words “ I’ve enjoyed a good life and here I am today 103 and still very happy 😊”
