🤝 Support Each Other in Action

This week, Cath (Practising Registrant) joined Jess (BCBA) at one of our residential homes to provide in-the-moment coaching and modelling around supporting play.

By sharing skills, reflecting together and building staff confidence, we're helping create more opportunities for connection, learning and success for the children and young people in our care.

This week saw Week 3 of our TRIBE Rolling Programme, focusing on Setting Up the Environment for Success and the role that routines, consistency and predictability play in creating stability for children who have experienced adversity and trauma.
Ironically, before we were due to start we noticed some equipment had been moved and we found ourselves frantically searching for cables and trying to get everything set up in time! 😅
It was a timely reminder that when things aren't where we expect them to be, even adults with plenty of regulation skills can experience stress and frustration. Imagine how much greater that impact can be for children and young people who have experienced ACEs and rely on predictability to feel safe.
Thankfully, our Life Story Lead, Kim, came to the rescue and helped us get everything up and running just in time!
Sometimes the best examples of why consistency matters happen when we least expect them.

🎙️ Episode 23 Re-Post
Are You Finding It Hard to See Your Child’s Behaviour as Communication Instead of “Bad Behaviour”?
When children are overwhelmed, dysregulated, or triggered, their behaviour can feel confusing, extreme, or even personal. It’s easy to slip into seeing behaviour as something to stop or correct, but for children impacted by trauma, behaviour is often a form of communication about what they can’t yet express in words.

🎧 Listen to our podcast Seeing Behaviour as Communication in Trauma Informed Care | Talk – Ep.23, where we explore this essential shift in understanding, how trauma shapes behavioural expression, and how responding with curiosity instead of control can transform relationships, reduce escalation, and support real emotional healing.

🎙️ Episode 22 Re-Post
Are You Wondering Whether “Trauma” or a “Diagnosis” Really Changes Anything for Your Child?
When children are struggling, parents and professionals are often given labels, diagnoses, categories, or trauma explanations, but it can feel confusing to know what actually helps. You might find yourself asking whether these labels clarify the problem or simply describe it, and what really matters when it comes to getting the right support in place.

🎧 Listen to our podcast Trauma or Diagnosis — Does It Matter? | Talk – Ep.22, where we explore the overlap between trauma and diagnostic frameworks, why labels can both help and limit understanding, and how moving towards a formulation-based, child-centred approach can lead to more meaningful and effective support.

Putting TRIBE training into practice 💫

Using their knowledge from residential TRIBE training, one of our TRIBE homes took time to reflect on the home environment, considering what could be added, adapted, or removed to better support the young people. This reflection is key to turning training into meaningful, everyday practice.
Environmental enrichment is a foundational strategy within the Creating Stability layer.

The result:
🎱 A games room (pool, ping pong, darts)
🛋️ A cosy cwtch space for rest and reset

Environmental enrichment isn’t just about how a space looks — it’s about how it feels and what it enables young people to do.
It helps to:
• Reduce boredom and unstructured time
• Build relationships through shared activities
• Support emotional regulation
• Encourage choice and independence

When teams are supported to reflect and shape their environment, it creates stronger, more nurturing homes for the children in their care 💛
