To conclude our videos for Volunteers' Week, meet charity shop volunteer Suzanne. 🎥 🌟

Suzanne said: 'My in-laws, and my husband and I have supported National Star for a period of years, and my daughter has worked within National Star for the last five years. I just love being part of the team here because they’re really great fun.'

Now retired, Suzanne continues to support us by volunteering in our charity shops. We love to hear how Suzanne and her family are making a lasting impact.

Science Week 2026 round-up!🔬✨

Star SciFest brought experiments, excitement, and plenty of hands-on learning, with students diving into activities such as wind tunnels, circuits, slime making, lava lamps, wildlife identification, and more.

They put their investigative skills to the test to see what they could create, both with a focus on exploration, all the way to formal investigations.

A big shoutout to Personalised Learning Co-ordinator Tutor, Hannah McCurdy, whose hard work behind the scenes made the entire week possible. 🙌

It’s safe to say this week was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

To continue with Volunteers' Week, meet National Star alumni Chloe, who now continues to support us by volunteering in our charity shops.🎥 🌟

Chloe said: ‘I volunteer with National Star because I was a student at the National Star College previously. I wanted to continue to support the charity because they are a good cause and so they can help more students and staff.’

Whilst learning with us, Chloe completed work placements that supported her to build work-related skills and prepare her for life after college.

We are so grateful for all of our alumni who continue to work with us, generating vital income to help more young people with disabilities to achieve their goals.

Volunteers Week is the perfect time to thank a group of management consultants from PA Consulting who gave their time for free recently when they built an outdoor kitchen for our new forest school.

The quartet put their project management and DIY skills to good use when they designed and built the wooden kitchen made predominantly out of recycled pallets. The kitchen was designed with wheelchair users and ambulant students in mind with different level work surfaces and removable sinks.

The sturdy structure now has pride of place in National Star’s new Forest school at Ullenwood and is already being used by learners for imaginary outdoor play and exploration.

Forest school’s holistic approach fosters a strong sense of community and belonging, enhancing students’ emotional wellbeing, social and communication skills and physical development, whilst nurturing a lasting, meaningful connection with the natural environment.

PA Consulting’s Richard said: ‘Our small team of management consultants, Alex, Sindooja, Ian and Richard were privileged to have been able to design and build the mud kitchen for National Star students, adapting the design as the day progressed and installing it in its home in the new Forest School.

‘We know from just a day outdoors, away from laptops and meeting rooms, just how important it is to be able to get outside and ‘do’ something in the fresh air, and we hope the students who use the mud kitchen enjoy it to the fullest extent they can.’

This week is Volunteers' Week, a time to recognise and celebrate all of our wonderful volunteers who support National Star.🌟

Our charity shops across Gloucestershire and Hereford help us to generate vital income for our charity, and this would not be possible without our welcoming team of volunteers.

🎥 In this video, meet Dominika, one of our amazing shop volunteers.

Dominika said: ‘I started volunteering because I was looking for an activity with people as I struggle with social anxiety. I love organising and sorting toys, and working on the till gives me reassurance that I can work with other people.’

From customer service, to working behind the scenes, we are so grateful to all of our volunteers for dedicating their time and making a real difference.💚
