Fantabulous Friday was full of fun and… cake! It is Sam’s birthday on Sunday so we celebrated with lots of cake and fun.
Sam would also like to take this opportunity as National Volunteer Week seems like the perfect time to say a huge thank you to the amazing people who give their time to Creative Serenity.

Anyone who knows us knows that Creative Serenity isn’t just about arts and crafts. It’s about friendship, laughter, inclusion, endless cups of tea… and the occasional mocha… supporting one another and creating a place where adults with additional needs can truly be themselves. None of that would be possible without our wonderful volunteers.

Marion and Lucy are our newest volunteers and have fitted in so naturally. Marion has a calm and friendly way about her and always takes the time to have a chat, helping everyone feel comfortable and valued. Lucy brings fun, encouragement and a real understanding of how important it is that every person feels included and respected.

Karen is our ray of sunshine. She brings energy, laughter and fun to every session, while somehow managing to keep me (Sam) organised at the same time … no small task!

Ellie is quiet and gentle, but her kindness speaks volumes. She notices the little things and always makes people feel cared for.

Holly brings creativity wherever she goes. She is full of fantastic ideas for art projects and is always inspiring us to try something new.

And then there’s Liz. My friend for longer than either of us would probably like to admit. She understands exactly why Creative Serenity exists and shares my passion for inclusion, compassion and making sure adults with disabilities have opportunities, friendships and experiences that enrich their lives.

To all of you, thank you. Thank you for the laughs, the conversations, the patience, the creativity, the support and for helping make Creative Serenity the warm, welcoming place that it is.

And while we’re celebrating volunteers, I’ll take the opportunity to say that we’d love a few more people to join our Creative Serenity family, especially between 1pm and 4pm. If you’re happy to get stuck into activities, enjoy a good chat, can hold your own in a football conversation and happen to have barista skills, you may be exactly who we’re looking for. The demand for mochas at Creative Serenity has recently increased dramatically and, quite frankly, we’re struggling to keep up with our very discerning customers!

Thank you to every volunteer, past and present, who has helped make Creative Serenity what it is today.

While Wednesday brought the rain and a little bit of chaos outside, inside Creative Serenity it was business as usual… calm, creativity, and plenty of laughter.

Our morning was filled with colour and concentration as we worked on threading beads for our beautiful flower wind chimes. A special mention has to go to Ian, who took on the bead threading challenge despite being convinced it was impossible. With determination and patience, he stuck with it and completed the task. You’re a superstar Ian!

We also kicked off a penguin project. Is it penguin season? Absolutely not. Did that stop us? Absolutely not. Creativity follows its own calendar at Creative Serenity.

The afternoon group continued bringing their dioramas to life, adding details and imagination to every scene. And for all the Lee fans out there, he made sure music history was represented by recreating the legendary BoyZone in diorama form. It’s safe to say the boys are back in town.

We’ve also shared a special video on our page showing everyone’s progress as they learn the signs for “Reach.” We would love for you to take a look and let us know how you think everyone is getting on.

As always, if you would like more information about joining Creative Serenity as a member or volunteer, please get in touch with Sam. We’d love to hear from you.

Friday flew by so fast our heads are still spinning… a bit like the beautiful hanging flower chimes we made today.

There was paint everywhere (as usual), but armed with aprons and determination, we somehow managed not to wear quite as much of it this time.

Kim went full Pokémon mode and decorated her pot and bag with Pokéballs, Jane created a gorgeous patterned flower pot, and Emily was absolutely delighted when Ellie, one of Sam’s wonderful volunteers, carefully sorted all the purple and pink beads ready for crafting.

One thing we love most about our group is celebrating everyone exactly as they are. Whether it’s organising beads by colour, perfecting patterns, or adding Pokémon to everything possible, we make sure everyone feels understood, included, and valued.

We currently have 3 places left for Wednesdays, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, now’s the perfect time to book a free taster session with Sam. We run every Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am–4pm. Sessions are £30 for half a day or £50 for a full day.

We’re also looking for more volunteers to join our happy, creative, slightly paint-covered group. Bonus points if you love football … we’d really love someone who can chat football and share the fun.

If you’d like to join us as a participant or volunteer, please contact Sam for more information.

What a brilliant launch to our new all-day Wednesday sessions!

We made the most of the sunshine and headed into the garden to pick daisies for our homemade sun catchers. Armed with sun cream and good vibes, we slowed the pace right down and soaked up the fresh air. Judging by the smiles and relaxed grass-sitting sessions, it was a huge success.

Ian has been an absolute superstar today, getting started on his diorama design… although we may need to work on the ratio of “artwork on paper” to “artwork on Ian.” Creative enthusiasm clearly got the better of him. He also completed his very first jigsaw puzzle with a little help from Liz …

Meanwhile, Lee has been busy creating a stage for his current favourite band … the legendary S Club 7. The concentration levels this afternoon were serious business as he focused on bringing the band members to life.

We were also so pleased to welcome Karen back today, while Holly and Liz have been busy preparing even more exciting projects coming soon. Holly in particular has been bursting with fantastic ideas, so keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks.

We’re also on the lookout for more volunteers … especially any men! The boys (and Angela) are desperate for football chats, and the rest of us ladies are currently contributing absolutely nothing useful to those conversations.

If you’d like information about volunteering or fancy coming along for a free taster session, get in touch with Sam. Fair warning: there will be biscuits, laughter, and guaranteed smiles.

Friday was another packed day filled with smiles, laughter, sea creatures and some seriously impressive creativity. Our amazing dioramas are really starting to come to life … from football stadiums to pirate ships, the imagination on display has been incredible.

We also celebrated Robert’s birthday, which gave us another perfect excuse for even more laughs, good company and CAKE!

For all the Lee fans out there, he proudly brought in his favourite hat this week… and naturally Sam had to try it on. The message on it says it all really: “It’s Cool to be Kind.”

As we grow, we are now looking for more volunteers to join our wonderful team. If you enjoy seeing our updates and would like to be part of something fun, rewarding and genuinely uplifting, we would absolutely love to hear from you.

We’ll arrange your DBS and training, and in return you’ll get plenty of smiles, laughs, great company and a real sense of belonging. There are also biscuits, drinks and Sam’s legendary baked goodies to look forward to.

The more volunteers we have, the more people we can support, we’re excited to say that next week we launch our brand new Wednesday all-day sessions from 9.30am–4pm.

We only have 3 places remaining for Wednesdays, while Fridays are now fully booked (although we are taking names for the waiting list).

Session prices:
£30 half day
£50 full day

If you’d like to find out more about joining us… either as a volunteer or for sessions, please contact Sam.

Another brilliant Wednesday packed with creativity, dancing and plenty of laughter. We were delighted to welcome Josh to the group … and what a dancer! Even Lee was impressed, which is saying something.

Our crafty crew got busy making turtles, crabs and seahorses, while Brian and Angela brought along boxes for model making magic. We were also very happy to welcome Frankie back.

The dancing session may have reached legendary status this week. Everyone threw themselves into it with so much enthusiasm that Sam is reportedly recovering with a lie down in a dark room.

Next week is a big one as we launch our brand new all-day sessions running from 9.30am–4pm. We only have 3 places left, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the time. Fridays are already full, but we are taking names for the waiting list.

Sessions are £30 or £50 for a full day.

We are also looking for more volunteers … especially for Wednesday afternoons. The more volunteers we have, the more people we can support and the more fun we can create together. We’ll arrange your DBS and training, and there is also the added bonus of Sam’s famous biscuit selection and homemade bakes.

If you’d like to join the fun, volunteer, or grab one of the last remaining places, please contact Sam for more information.

It’s Frrrriday… and what a fabulous day we’ve had at Creative Serenity.

Today was all about underwater adventures, with turtles, seahorses, crabs and even the occasional frog making an appearance. At this rate, we’ll soon have created enough sea creatures to fill our very own aquarium.

The creativity didn’t stop there. Sam rolled out a giant sheet of paper and Mike, Brian, John and Lee got stuck into some brilliant doodling, with Emily joining in too. Imaginations ran wild and the finished masterpiece was something pretty special. There’s nothing better than seeing creativity come to life when everyone works together.

We’d also like to wish Jane, Robert and Nicky the very best of luck this evening and tomorrow as they take to the stage in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Talent Box. We know you’ll all be amazing.

We’re also excited to announce our brand new Wednesday afternoon sessions starting on Wednesday 27th May. We already have a few places booked, but there’s still space available, so get in touch with Sam to find out more and book a free taster session.

And finally, we’re looking for more fantastic volunteers to join our wonderful Creative Serenity family. If you’d enjoy spending a few hours chatting, creating and sharing laughs with a truly fabulous group of people, we’d love to hear from you.
