Lunch was on the table when Margaret settled in, the pram beside her with the doll tucked in close, a small but familiar presence that brings her a sense of belonging during the day. 🥰

Jean had large-print playing cards spread across the tablecloth next to her plate, easy to read and something to come back to between mouthfuls. Afternoons here tend to find everyone doing exactly what suits them.

Glenda's morning was her own, television on, drink to hand, no particular reason to be anywhere else. 🥰 Alan had more pressing matters, his red pen moving carefully across his wife's birthday card. Earlier this month a bearded dragon came to visit and seemed entirely unbothered by the attention it received. Luis was out in the garden, cap on in the sun shine.

Bea settled into her chair this afternoon with the newspaper open across her lap, working her way through the pages at her own pace. Across the home, Malcolm had wheeled himself over to check on the fish tank in Harmony. Nora spent part of the day outside, her wheelchair parked beneath an arch of green leaves with her bag resting in her lap and the sun finding its way through. 🌞

Today we've spent part of the afternoon outside beneath the trees enjoying the fresh air, while indoors others kept cool away from the heat with cold drinks and a slower pace to the day. 🌞

Lunch recently was served with cottage pie and vegetables at tables set with fresh flowers, and later on cake mixture was stirred slowly by hand while the smell of baking drifted through the room.

These small parts of the day continue to matter, keeping comfortable during the heatwave, meals shared around the table, and familiar routines carried on at a steady pace.

Life carried on in lots of different ways across the home recently 🌞

Barbara spent some time listening to wartime stories through her headphones with a smile that stayed long after the recording ended, while Nora concentrated carefully over a jigsaw by the window.

Elsewhere, a ring toss game brought a bit of friendly competition to the lounge, Paul helped lay the tables ready for lunch, and one trip out included a fresh haircut and a catch up at the barber’s. Small parts of ordinary life that still matter deeply.

This story has stayed with all of us.

Nora, who lives with us in Frome, was just six years old when her father was killed during the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943. More than eighty years later, his diary, photographs, letters and medals are still carefully kept by the family, with memories passed down across generations.

Recently, Nora and her daughter Sally shared Bill’s remarkable story with us, from wartime Frome to Sicily and back again.

You can read the full story below.

A family member living at a Somerset care home in Frome shares the story of her father who was killed in Sicily during the Second World War, preserved through diaries, photographs and family memories across three generations.

Not every day looks the same here. Alan had his eye on every cone during ring toss, his concentration absolute. Elsewhere, bunting was up and leis were on as family members gathered outside for an afternoon together.🌞

Back inside, Nora didn't need much persuading to join in the singalong when the microphone came her way!

Today, we raised an incredible £154.69 for Dementia uk

We're so proud to have taken part in Dementia UK's Time for a Cuppa fundraiser, and what a wonderful day it was.

Our Domestic team member Tina was at the heart of it all, keeping the teas and coffees flowing as members of the Frome community trickled in throughout the day, including Tina's own family.

Activities Coordinator Sharon was back and forth making sure everyone felt welcome, and it was lovely to see so many family members' relatives join us too. ✨

Family member Phil gave us our favourite review of the day: "Tina's tea-making skills were up to scratch, she makes a good cup of tea!"

Thank you to everyone who popped in and supported us.
