As we mark Carers Week, we would like to take a moment to recognise and thank our incredible carers for everything they do each and every day.

Their dedication, compassion and hard work never go unnoticed. Day and night, they go above and beyond to ensure our residents are safe, comfortable and receiving the highest standard of care. Their commitment is at the heart of everything we do and we are truly grateful for the difference they make in the lives of our residents and their families.

Recently, we were delighted to treat our amazing team to a well deserved staff celebration event. It was wonderful to see so many smiles, laughter and happy moments shared together. The event was a true reflection of the strong bonds, supportive atmosphere and family spirit that make Signature at Hendon Hall such a special place to work and live.

🎙️ Our residents were LIVE on BBC Radio! 🎙️

We are absolutely delighted to share that two of our wonderful residents, Peter and Edward, were invited to BBC Broadcasting House to appear live on the radio and talk about their experiences of England's historic 1966 World Cup victory.

It was a truly unforgettable experience, filled with pride, excitement and reflection as Peter and Edward shared their memories of such an iconic moment in sporting history. Hearing them reflect on this historic occasion was a privilege and a reminder of the extraordinary experiences they have witnessed throughout their lives.

Knowing that their family and friends were listening from home made the occasion even more meaningful, and we were honoured to accompany them on this fantastic journey.

Moments like these showcase the incredible people we are privileged to care for every day and highlight the rich history, character and sense of community that make Hendon Hall so special.

⚽ A few weeks ago, we were privileged to host a very special event here at Hendon Hall. Ahead of Care Home Open Week (15th–21st June), we opened our doors for a World Cup-themed celebration honouring England’s unforgettable 1966 World Cup victory.

This year’s Care Home Open Week theme is “Care is Coming Home” - a fitting tribute for Hendon Hall, as the England team stayed here when it was Hendon Hall Hotel on the night before that iconic final.

It was a fantastic day filled with celebration, nostalgia, and community spirit. Guests were welcomed with a red carpet entrance, while our Hospitality Team created delicious 1960s-inspired canapés and drinks. We also played highlights from the historic match, sparking wonderful memories and conversations among residents and visitors alike.

One of the highlights of the day was hearing personal accounts from three men who watched the final live in 1966 - including one of our own residents and two guests from the local community. Their stories brought history to life in such a meaningful way.
We were also delighted to welcome Cyrus and Rob from Hendon Football Club, who shared fascinating insights into the home’s local football heritage before hosting a fun and interactive quiz that our residents thoroughly enjoyed.

We were proud to welcome visitors from Championing Social Care, the creators of Care Home Open Week, as well as representatives from Howden, one of the event sponsors. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our beautiful home and everything Signature has to offer.

And most excitingly… you may have spotted us on BBC Breakfast this morning! We were thrilled to welcome the BBC crew into the home to film the event and interview residents and our special guest, Geoff. Definitely not your average day in a care home!

💜 Purple Heart Winners for May 💜

A huge congratulations to our Purple Heart Winners this month at Hendon Hall, Abdi, Marilyn & Elaine! 🎉

Our Purple Heart Award is one of our most special recognitions as the winners are nominated by both their colleagues and our residents, celebrating those who consistently go above and beyond.

🌟 Abdi is one of our dedicated carers and a truly valued member of the Hendon Hall family. His hard work, kindness, positive attitude and constant smile make a difference every single day. Loved by residents and colleagues alike, Abdi is a credit to our home. He is currently completing a Level 3 Career Development Pathway towards becoming a Care Supervisor, supported by our management team and current supervisors. It is fantastic to see his dedication recognised as he continues to grow and develop within Signature.

🌟 We would also like to give a special mention to Elaine, who unfortunately was not available for a photograph. As an incredible member of our Food and Beverage team, Elaine is always greeted with a smile and consistently goes above and beyond for everyone around her. Her kindness, dedication and willingness to help wherever needed make a real difference to our residents, relatives and colleagues every day. We are so grateful to have her as part of the Hendon Hall family.

🌟 Marilyn, our Care Manager, has made a remarkable impact since joining Hendon Hall. Her passion for care, genuine compassion and commitment to both residents and colleagues shine through in everything she does. Marilyn’s journey is also a wonderful example of the career progression opportunities available within Signature. Starting her career as a carer, she worked hard to achieve her goal of becoming a manager and continues to inspire those around her.

What makes this even more special is that Marilyn and our General Manager, Orla, previously worked together at another Signature home, where Orla was a Care Manager and mentor to Marilyn while she was a Care Supervisor. To now see them standing side by side in leadership positions is a testament to their hard work, determination and the support Signature provides to help its people achieve their goals.

Congratulations, Abdi, Marilyn & Elaine. We are incredibly proud of you all and grateful for everything you do for our residents, relatives and team members. 💜

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing our residents smiling, laughing, and making wonderful memories together on our trips out at Signature at Hendon Hall. ❤️

Whether it’s enjoying a pub lunch, browsing the shops, visiting museums, relaxing in a lovely café, or taking in the scenery on a canal boat trip, every outing gives our residents the opportunity to socialise, explore, and enjoy meaningful experiences together.

Getting out and about brings so many benefits, from boosting wellbeing and confidence to encouraging connection, stimulation, and joy. These special moments create lasting memories, spark conversations, and most importantly, put smiles on everyone’s faces.

We are so proud to provide opportunities for our residents to enjoy new surroundings, fresh air, and quality time together.

📣When arranging a special event to commemorate England’s unforgettable 1966 World Cup win, we stumbled across some incredibly nostalgic photos that highlight the historic connection between Signature at Hendon Hall and England’s greatest footballing triumph.

Back in 1966, the England squad stayed at Hendon Hall throughout their victorious World Cup campaign, with legends including Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Geoff Hurst, Jimmy Greaves and Gordon Banks all walking these very grounds before lifting the Jules Rimet Trophy at Wembley.

Residents enjoyed working with pastels alongside our talented art teacher, learning new techniques and developing new skills in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.

This week at Hendon Hall, we celebrated Marjorie’s 86th birthday in style! 🎉🎂

Marjorie enjoyed a delicious freshly baked birthday cake and a very special visit from one of our lovely therapy dogs, which brought lots of smiles and cuddles. Our wonderful staff helped make her day extra special, ensuring she felt celebrated and surrounded by care.
