Not all tests are created equal

At BTB, we don’t just hand you results, we help you understand, apply, and get better..

If you’ve tried “everything” and nothing worked, maybe your body just needs the right answers.

Your oral bacteria may matter more than you think for long-term health. New research highlighted by The Times of India links certain oral bacteria and fungi, often seen in gum disease, to up to a 3x higher risk of pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive “silent” cancers, often detected late, making early risk understanding especially important.

Endometriosis diagnosis has traditionally relied on laparoscopy, but emerging research is exploring whether non-invasive approaches could play a greater role in the future.

Could a straightforward swab eventually reduce or even replace the need for surgical confirmation? While still under investigation, advances in molecular and biomarker-based testing are challenging long-held diagnostic pathways.

A shift toward earlier, less invasive diagnosis could meaningfully change care pathways but clinical validation remains key.

A concerning reality is emerging in UK primary care: children as young as toddlers are being identified with obesity in general practice.

According to recent reporting in The Guardian, many GPs describe challenges in raising weight-related concerns with families due to fears of stigma, shame, and emotional distress. However, the issue extends beyond individual behaviour. The article highlights wider systemic drivers, including food insecurity, poverty, and limited access to affordable, nutritious food.

Could allergy and intolerance testing be part of the missing piece for better metabolic balance?

GLP-1 receptor agonists have transformed obesity management, but the path to long-term metabolic health extends beyond weight loss alone.

Emerging evidence highlights the importance of a whole-body approach, including nutrition quality, muscle preservation, metabolic health, and the gut microbiome. Supporting microbial diversity through adequate fibre, nutrient-rich foods, and sustainable dietary patterns may play an important role in maintaining long-term health outcomes.

GLP-1 therapy can be a powerful tool, but its greatest impact may come when integrated with strategies that support the body’s underlying biology.

:
How can we make sure that GLP-1s enhance rather than replace the foundations of health when we incorporate them into care plans?

Skin often reflects what’s happening inside the gut.
Delayed food reactions and inflammation commonly show up as acne, rashes or itching.

Testing helps connect skin symptoms to internal triggers.

Healthy food doesn’t always mean gut-friendly food.
If bloating shows up despite eating well, hidden food intolerances or gut imbalance could be the reason.

Understanding your gut response > guessing.

Today, on World IBD Day, we recognise the millions of people worldwide living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In the UK alone, around 1 in 120 people are affected.

IBD impacts far more than digestive health. Living with chronic symptoms such as pain, fatigue and uncertainty can also have a significant effect on mental wellbeing, highlighting the important connection between gut health and overall health.

At Back to Balance, we believe in supporting a more holistic understanding of health, recognising the close relationship between physical and mental wellbeing, and the importance of greater awareness, compassion and support for those living with chronic conditions.

For many people, the challenges of IBD are not always visible, but that does not make them any less real.

IBD is more than the gut. Let’s go there. 💜

Fatigue isn’t always about sleep.
Poor nutrient absorption, gut inflammation and food reactions can drain energy silently.

Looking at gut health can explain what rest alone can’t fix.

1 in 4 adults in the UK experience mental health problems each year, yet many people only focus on their mental wellbeing when they’re already struggling. 💚

From sleep and movement to nutrition, connection and gut health, simple actions can have a real impact on how we feel mentally and physically.

This year’s theme is Action: choose one thing that supports your mental wellbeing and make it part of your routine. 🧠✨
