WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY // Menstrual and hormonal health can have a huge impact on mental health. Some women suffer from menstrual cycle related depression and anxiety that starts in the 7-10 days before their period.
Then there’s pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), which can cause dramatic emotional and mental upheaval that can leave women dreading the last two weeks of their cycle each month.
For other women, the pain they experience during their period and the anticipation of this pain, especially with conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis and fibroids, can have a negative impact on their mental health. They’re forced to rearrange their lives to accommodate for the severe pain they experience each month and this, along with the sheer force of the severity of the pain, can take its toll.
There’s also premenstrual exacerbation (PME), when symptoms of existing conditions can flare up in the 7 -10 days before menstruation. This can affect those with ADHD, anxiety, depression, autoimmune conditions and more.
If you relate to any of this, please know that you don’t need to suffer in silence or deal with this on your own.
