When you take on a caring role for a partner, your relationship doesn't disappear. But it can change in ways you never expected. πŸ’™

This Carers Week, Tamara, one of our relationship counsellors, talks about the realities of caring within a relationship. From shifting roles and responsibilities to navigating difficult emotions, it's a reminder that your relationship matters too.

If you'd like support, whether that's ongoing counselling, one-session therapy or a conversation with a counsellor, we're here to help: https://bit.ly/4upRag6

Being open with someone you care about isn't always easy. It can feel risky to share what's really going on, especially when you're worried about how it might be received. ❀️

But honesty is one of the foundations of intimacy. Not pretending everything is fine, but finding ways to talk openly about your feelings, needs and concerns.

It doesn't have to start with a big conversation. Sometimes it's as simple as giving an honest answer when your partner asks how you are, rather than saying you're fine when you're not.

If this resonates, we've shared some practical tips on how to start being more open with your partner: https://bit.ly/4dOc2Y4

There's no such thing as a perfect relationship. Only the one that works for the people in it. πŸ’™

Whether you're facing trust issues, struggling with conflict, feeling distant from each other or simply trying to build a stronger connection, relationship challenges are a normal part of life.

At Relate, we help people navigate the realities of modern relationships with specialist counselling, practical tools and expert support. Because getting help isn't a sign that a relationship has failed. It's a positive step towards understanding each other better and finding a way forward.

Intimacy in a long-term relationship isn't something that stays constant on its own. It needs attention, and sometimes a more intentional effort to find your way back to each other. ❀️

Our rebuilding intimacy toolkit is designed for exactly that. It's full of conversation prompts and reflective questions you can work through together at your own pace, with no pressure to do it all at once.

We've all been there. You start a conversation hoping to resolve something, but five minutes later you're both on the defensive and nobody's really listening.

A lot of the time, it's not what you're saying that creates the block. It's the difference between 'you' language and 'I' language.

Here's a simple way to take the heat out of a difficult conversation before it escalates ⬇️

What is stonewalling, and why does it happen? πŸ’¬

Most of us have done it, or experienced it, at some point. It's when someone shuts down completely during a conflict. And while it can feel like the safest option when things get overwhelming, it usually leaves the other person feeling dismissed and the conversation unresolved.
