๐Ÿ’› World Hepatitis Day โ€“ 28 July

Today is World Hepatitis Day, a global awareness day highlighting the importance of looking after your liver and raising awareness of viral hepatitis.

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. Some types can be prevented through vaccination, while others can be successfully treated if diagnosed early.

Many people have no symptoms, so itโ€™s important to seek advice if you think you may be at risk or have concerns about your liver health.

Help protect your liver by:

โœ”๏ธ Getting vaccinated if youโ€™re eligible
โœ”๏ธ Practising good hygiene and safe food preparation when travelling
โœ”๏ธ Avoiding sharing needles or personal items such as razors or toothbrushes
โœ”๏ธ Speaking to your GP if you think youโ€™ve been at risk or have symptoms such as persistent tiredness, abdominal pain or jaundice

For trusted NHS information, visit:

๐Ÿ”— https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hepatitis

๐Ÿ”— https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hepatitis-b

Together, we can raise awareness, reduce stigma and encourage early diagnosis. ๐Ÿ’™

โ˜€๏ธ Stay Safe in the Summer Heat ๐Ÿ’™

Warm weather is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, but itโ€™s important to look after yourself and others.

โœ”๏ธ Drink plenty of water throughout the day
โœ”๏ธ Wear sunscreen and seek shade during the hottest hours
โœ”๏ธ Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
โœ”๏ธ Check in on older relatives, neighbours and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat

If you feel dizzy, weak, unusually tired or unwell in the heat, move somewhere cool, drink water and seek medical advice if your symptoms donโ€™t improve.

Stay safe, stay hydrated and enjoy the sunshine! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’Š Did You Know Your Local Pharmacy Can Help With More Than You Think?

Your local pharmacy is often the quickest place to get advice and treatment for many common health concerns.

Pharmacists can offer advice and, for some conditions, provide NHS treatment without you needing to see a GP.

They may be able to help with:

โœ… Sore throats
โœ… Earache
โœ… Sinusitis
โœ… Infected insect bites
โœ… Impetigo
โœ… Shingles
โœ… UTIs

Pharmacists can also advise on coughs, colds, hay fever, aches and pains, and many other minor illnesses.

Choosing the right NHS service helps ensure GP appointments remain available for patients who need them most.

If youโ€™re unsure where to go, speak to our reception team or visit your local pharmacy for advice.

๐Ÿ’ง Think it could be a UTI? Know the signs.

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection that can affect your bladder, kidneys or urinary system. Recognising the symptoms early and getting the right advice can help prevent it from becoming more serious.

Common symptoms include:

๐Ÿšป Pain or burning when passing urine
๐Ÿšป Needing to p*e more often or urgently
๐Ÿšป Cloudy, dark or strong-smelling urine
๐Ÿšป Pain in your lower tummy or back
๐Ÿšป Feeling generally unwell or having a high temperature

To help reduce your risk:

๐Ÿ’ง Drink plenty of water
๐Ÿšฝ Donโ€™t hold your urine for long periods
๐Ÿงผ Practise good personal hygiene

If you think you have a UTI, your local pharmacy may be able to help with advice and treatment for some patients. If your symptoms are severe, keep returning, youโ€™re pregnant, male, or youโ€™re feeling very unwell, please contact the practice for further assessment.

Looking after your urinary health can help prevent infections and keep you feeling your best. ๐Ÿ’™
