At Roots OT we value connection with self, others and natural world.

That’s why we offer 1:1 sessions, groups and community and workforce offers and we work with people, not ticking boxes!

Here's a bit more info, but if you have questions, just DM me!
-1:1 therapy; if you're struggling with daily tasks (cooking, cleaning, planning your day or getting out the house) and are feeling increasingly overwhelmed, i help you unpick these & support you with practical strategies to make a life that works for you

-Functional assessments: a full assessment of your daily life & recommendations to move forward- this can include providing support for PIP assessments

-Vocational assessments & rehabilitation: for managers & HR folk who are concerned about the wellbeing of their staff & want to understand their needs to support them to return to work in a supported way, at an appropriate time.

-Team Wellbeing events; Nature-based Team Wellbeing Days provide a supportive, informal space for teams to reduce stress, regulate their nervous systems, and strengthen connection through therapeutic, nature-based activities.

-Groups: a variety of group sessions including supporting those on sick/returning to work/navigating life changes as well as talking circles and pop up events.

-Netwalking: monthly netwalks around wakefield to encourage you to away from your desk and into nature to invite calm, make deeper connections with other local business owners & spark creativity! 🙂🌳

Hey! To those new here, i thought i better introduce myself- to those already here, here's a reminder!

I'm Zoe, gardener, adventurer and crazy cat lady!

I'm also an Occupational and nature Therapist, specialising in women’s mental health. I work with people who struggle to function in ways that are expected of them — often because they’re neurodivergent, anxious, burnt out, or healing from life changing surgery/conditions. I assess where someone is at, then gently support them to use nature to find calm, rebuild confidence, and create daily routines that actually fit their life, rather than forcing themselves into systems that don’t.

If you love nature and want to know how it can help you in your life to beat the overwhelm and autopilot and move forward with a routine and strategies that work for your life so you can be the person you want to be- then you're in the right place!

P.s. i didnt update the pic....im also 39🙃🌳

Hills I'll die on as a mental health OT:

-you can't sustainably heal in environments that constantly cause you stress; constantly going back to the same situation just helps the cycle repeat, rather than getting us out of a groove, it makes it deeper. You're unlikely to be able to change a culture or environment much unfortunately, but know it isn't you, it's the system.

-therapy isn't just about sitting in rooms talking; doing an activity, either practising the thing you want to improve or being outside or doing something creative gives you an opportunity to step outside the situation for a bit- diverting your attention and allowing you to process things & move forward

-one model of therapy won’t fix everything; yep, there’s lots of great modalities out there, they’re all great for different things. What worked last time might not work now. That’s why I’ve done lots of CPD training, to find the best approach for you, now.

-move your body; there's nothing a walk, good shake/dance out or a change of scene won’t solve by moving stagnant energy and helping you process stuff

-therapy isn't a magic wand- if you aren't doing work between sessions, don’t expect big changes! I can row with you, but not for you, simples! 🙂🌳

Progress in healing can be quiet and gradual. That doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

Like in nature, often the most significant things are the smallest. A seed breaking open beneath the soil. New shoots appearing after winter. Roots growing deep where nobody can see them.

Healing can look like:
• taking one deep breath before reacting
• resting without guilt for the first time
• noticing what your body needs
• saying no when you usually say yes & regret it
• stepping outside for five minutes of fresh air rather than pushing through
• feeling slightly less overwhelmed than you did last month

These moments can seem small, but they matter. Small shifts create strong foundations.

You do not have to transform overnight for your healing to count. Gentle progress is still progress. 🙂🌳

This 2-hour, facilitated outdoor session offers a gentle, structured space for individuals who are currently out of work, returning after a period of sickness or burnout, or re-orienting themselves following change.

Held in a private garden therapy space and surrounding community, the group focuses on connection, confidence, and relational wellbeing, supporting people to feel met where they are, rather than pushed to perform.

This is not therapy and not employability training.
It is a bridging space: somewhere people can land, reconnect with others, and rebuild rhythm and capacity in a way that feels safe and dignified.

This group is suitable for individuals who may be:

On sickness absence or phased return
Recovering from stress, burnout, anxiety, or low confidence
Out of work and feeling isolated or disconnected
Finding traditional return-to-work support too pressurised
Finding navigating life transitions or circumstances difficult
Needing gentle re-engagement with routine, people, and shared activity

Every Thursday 11-1
south Hiendley
Cost: £20

When your client asks if they can bring a slackline to their next session with you & your answer is "hell yeh!"

Love exploring new things & clients interests; this was also an amazing tool not only for improving their core strength (their original aim for getting this), but also one in trust in each other as we supported each other whilst we took turns using it, & trust in ourselves that our bodies would be able to balance.
Also a great mindfulness exercise to channel out external stimuli & focus, not just on walking & balance, but how that became routine & allowed a focussed flowing conversation around the actual therapy.

Feel a new piece of kit might be added to the collection soon 🙂🌳
