He Isn’t One of Us!
Robert Bush called himself a funeral director.
He owned funeral homes. He arranged funerals. He stood before grieving families and accepted their trust.

But he is not one of us!

A funeral director is trusted with people who can no longer speak, object or protect themselves. We become their final safeguard.

Behind the doors of every mortuary, there is no audience.
Nobody checks whether we wash someone with care.
Nobody sees us cover them with dignity.
Nobody watches as we gently place a wedding ring back on a finger or straighten a lock of hair before a family comes to visit.

We do those things because they matter, not because anyone is watching.

Robert Bush did the opposite.

Families were told cremations had taken place when they had not. Some were given the ashes of strangers. They scattered them. Buried them. Kept them on their mantelpieces. Took comfort from them.
Only to discover that the person they loved had never been there at all.

He didn’t simply steal money.
He stole certainty.

He reached back into families’ grief and destroyed the one thing every funeral is meant to provide: confidence that they had done right by the person they loved.

That is why this case matters far beyond Hull.

It is not the story of a funeral director.

It is the story of a man who used the title of funeral director to gain access to vulnerable people and betray the trust placed in him.

Most of us will never become known outside our own communities. We quietly care for the dead, knowing that almost everything we do happens out of sight.

The public should judge us by that standard.

Not by Robert Bush.

He may have owned funeral homes.
He may have worn the suit.
He may have called himself a ‘funeral director’.

But the title does not make the person.

He isn’t one of us!

Water Safety Advice from North Wales Police.

Our thoughts are with all those who have sadly lost their lives this year in water related incidents.

Nine lives have been lost in water-related incidents across North Wales since March. Behind every number is a family, friends and a community whose lives have been changed forever and our thoughts are with all those involved.

In response, North Wales Police brought together partners from across the region to strengthen our shared commitment to preventing further tragedies. The meeting focused on improving collaboration, sharing expertise and identifying practical measures to enhance prevention, education and public awareness.

While many organisations are already working hard to promote water safety, by bringing partners together we can strengthen our collective approach.

As many people continue to enjoy North Wales’s beautiful coastline, lakes and rivers during the warmer weather, agencies are asking everyone to be aware that water can present risks at any time of the year. Even places that appear calm can have hidden hazards, including cold water, strong currents and sudden changes in depth.

If you are planning to spend time in, on or around the water, please take a moment to think about your safety and the safety of those with you. Planning ahead, knowing the conditions and looking out for one another can make a real difference.

We want everyone to enjoy everything North Wales has to offer and return home safely so we are encouraging both residents and visitors to make safety a priority whenever they're enjoying the outdoors and to take a moment to think about how they can reduce the risks.

Whether you're walking in the mountains, spending time on the coast, or visiting lakes and rivers, conditions can change quickly. Take time to plan ahead, check the weather and tide information, make sure you have the right equipment, and be realistic about your experience and abilities. Around water, be aware of the risks posed by strong currents and cold water shock and always keep a close eye on children.

Everyone has a personal responsibility to make sensible decisions and look after themselves and those around them. By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help prevent avoidable incidents and ensure everyone can enjoy North Wales safely throughout the summer.

As Bereaved Parents Month comes to a close, we want every grieving parent to know this:

You are still a parent.
Your baby is still loved.
Your grief is still valid.
And your story still matters.

This month may be ending, but our support, remembrance, and love do not end today. We will continue to speak our babies' names, honor their lives, and stand beside every family walking this difficult path.

To every bereaved mother, father, grandparent, and family member, thank you for trusting us with your stories, your tears, your memories, and your babies. It is an honor to remember them with you.

As we turn the page to a new month, may you carry with you the reminder that you are never alone. Your baby's life made a difference, and they will always be remembered.

Following the sentencing of Robert Bush of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, our thoughts are with all the families who have been affected by his actions. We stand with each and every one them now and always ✊🏻

20 years IS NOT enough of a sentence for what this monster did to his victims and their families 😤

At present, in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the funeral industry is unregulated by the government, meaning anyone can open a Funeral Directors without formal training, licenses, or routine inspections. Trade associations like the National Association of Funeral Directors and SAIF independent funeral directors offer voluntary membership and codes of practice, but have no legal enforcement over non-members.

Here at Jones Family Funeral Directors, we are members of the trade association SAIF, meaning we have had our premises inspected and passed by one of their team. Also, Jayne is a qualified Funeral Director, and holds the Level 3 Certificate and the Level 4 Diploma in Funeral Service, all of which was funded by herself. Funding and passing those qualifications herself not only shows dedication and passion, but proves that she knows what she is doing. We may be Mother and Daughter, but Jayne has trained me, (Natalie), to a very high standard, to ensure that we give the best service to those who choose to use our services. This business means more to us than anything else and we won’t do anything to jeopardise it.

All we can say is, please do your research when choosing a Funeral Director, especially after this situation in Hull. Always phone around and speak to each company, ask questions, get answers, and see who suits you and your family’s needs. Don’t just go to one because people have said “they are the best!” What is best for them might not be best for you.

Bush was sentenced to twenty years after pleading guilty to 67 offences connected with his operation of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors.
