Matariki is a time where people, whānau, and communities gather together to remember the year that has passed, to celebrate the present, and to plan for the next year. It is a time to remember our loved ones who are no longer with us, to feast and celebrate with our relatives and friends, and to look towards the future and the hope of a season full of bounty.

Celebrating Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa

From 31 May to 6 June 2026, we honour the beauty, strength and heritage of the Samoan language. This year’s theme reminds us that “’E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u” meaning the blessings of the village come from the high mountains.

Let’s learn a few everyday phrases together:
• Tālofa lava — hello
• Tōfā soifua — goodbye
• Ioe, fa’amolemole — yes please
• Leai, fa’afetai — no thank you
