Most of us breathe without giving it much thought. But when you're living with COPD or another lung condition, breathing can become something you're much more aware of, particularly when you're feeling breathless.

Understanding how your breathing works can be an important step towards managing it with greater confidence.

Want to feel stronger and steadier?

Our NEW Stronger & Steadier Move2Breathe video is a manageable strength and balance workout created for people living with COPD and other long-term lung conditions.

Building stronger muscles can help your body use energy and oxygen more efficiently, while balance exercises can support confidence with everyday activities such as standing, walking and carrying things.

Join our trainer Deb for this follow-along workout at home. All you need is a sturdy chair for support. Light hand weights are optional- you can complete the entire workout without them.

Move at your own pace, adapt the exercises and take extra rests whenever you need them. You don’t have to do everything perfectly- simply give it a go and do what feels manageable today. Every bit of movement counts!

Please only exercise if you feel well enough and your breathing is within its usual range. Stop if you experience chest pain, dizziness, severe or unusual breathlessness, loss of balance, or feel unwell.

Is your breathing feeling harder today?

On more difficult breathing days, exercise can feel like the last thing you want to do- but a little gentle movement is still worthwhile.

Our new "8-Minute “When Breathing Feels Hard” workout" has been designed for people living with COPD and other lung conditions. Join our trainer Deb for a short, gentle session that can be completed at home, using a chair for support.

Move at your own pace, take breaks whenever you need them and only do what feels manageable today. You don’t have to complete the whole workout... remember every little bit of movement counts.

Our video can be found here:

Please only exercise if you feel well enough. Stop if you experience chest pain, dizziness, severe or unusual breathlessness, or feel unwell. Follow your respiratory action plan and seek medical advice if needed.

When breathing feels harder, a full workout can feel out of reach. ...

Another wonderful year of support from COGS!

We are so grateful to have received funding from the Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS) to support the work of Respiratory Support Nelson. Hāpai Hapori Community Matters

Ongoing funding like this makes such a difference to a small community organisation like ours. It helps us continue being here for people across Nelson Tasman living with respiratory conditions - providing opportunities for exercise, education, connection and support.

We are incredibly thankful to COGS for recognising the value of our work and for continuing to invest in our community.

Thank you for helping us support people to breathe better and live well. 💙
