What is so special about 3 am???????

Apparently, menopause thinks it’s meeting time.

You fall asleep, then suddenly you’re awake—hot, uncomfortable, or mentally planning your entire day.

During perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes, night sweats, and mood changes can disrupt sleep. But waking at 3 a.m. alone does not prove your hormones are the cause. Stress, alcohol, insomnia, and sleep apnea may also contribute.

What can help?
• Keep your bedroom cool.
• Follow a consistent sleep schedule.
• Limit late-day caffeine and alcohol near bedtime.
• Discuss frequent waking, snoring, or daytime exhaustion with your provider.

Treatment should address what is actually interrupting your sleep. Hormonal and nonhormonal options may be appropriate.

Being awake at 3 a.m. shouldn’t become your nightly routine.
