ARC Counseling Helping individuals and families navigate adversity, build resilience, and foster meaningful connections.

Serving children, teens, adults, and first responders in Bismarck and surrounding areas through in-person and telehealth therapy. Hi, I’m Nicole Renner, LPCC and the therapist behind ARC Counseling. I provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy to children, teens, adults, and families. My work is grounded in helping people navigate adversity, strengthen resilience, and build meaningful connecti

on — especially those in rural communities, first responders, and military families. Whether you’re facing anxiety, trauma, grief, or life transitions, my goal is to create a safe, supportive space where healing can happen. I offer both in-person at my Bismarck office and telehealth services across North Dakota, with flexible options to meet you where you are.

Repair is where relationships grow.

Conflict is inevitable. Misunderstandings happen. We all have moments when we react instead of respond.

The goal isn’t to be perfect.

The goal is to come back.

To say:
“I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t handle that well.”
“Can we try again?”

Repair doesn’t erase what happened, but it creates an opportunity for trust, understanding, and deeper connection.

Healthy relationships aren’t built by avoiding conflict—they’re built by knowing how to reconnect after it.

At ARC Counseling, we believe resilience is strengthened through honest conversations, accountability, and the courage to return.

Connection isn’t built in perfection. It’s built in the repair.

Every sincere apology plants a seed of trust. 🌱🤍

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from ARC Counseling! ❤️🤍💙

Today, we celebrate the freedoms we share, the time spent with family and friends, and the moments that bring us together.

As you enjoy the holiday, remember that celebrations can also bring excitement, overstimulation, or big emotions—especially for little ones. Give yourself and your family grace, embrace the imperfect moments, and focus on making meaningful memories.

Wishing you a safe, joyful, and relaxing Independence Day!

For many children, it’s not just the big life changes that feel overwhelming—everyday transitions can be challenging too. Moving between activities, ending preferred tasks, adjusting to new routines, separating from caregivers, or managing changes in expectations can lead to frustration, anxiety, meltdowns, or behavioral difficulties.

I help children develop the skills needed to navigate transitions more smoothly, manage big feelings, build confidence, and increase flexibility through play therapy and other child-centered approaches.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

At ARC Counseling, we recognize that behind every act of service is sacrifice, courage, and family. Today we hold space for remembrance, gratitude, and reflection for those who have lost loved ones and for all who carry the weight of service-related experiences.

As we spend time with family, enjoy the long weekend, or simply slow down for a moment, may we never forget the true meaning of this day.

Okay but I also have to show off the amazing hat I won during the silent auction at the Bloomin Light out of the Darkness floral runway show last night 🌸👒✨

Not only was the event absolutely beautiful, but every auction item helped support Mental Health America of North Dakota and the North Dakota Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health— two organizations doing incredibly important work for mental health advocacy, education, and support in our communities.

Feeling very lucky to have gone home with this piece and even more grateful to have been part of an event centered around creativity, connection, and mental health awareness. 💚

Last night I had the opportunity to attend Bloomin Light Out of the Darkness, a beautiful floral runway show supporting two incredible organizations: Mental Health America of North Dakota and the North Dakota Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health. 🌸✨

It was such a meaningful event that brought creativity, community, and advocacy together in support of mental health awareness and resources across our state. Seeing people come together to raise funds and support for individuals and families impacted by mental health challenges was truly inspiring.

Grateful to have been part of an evening that not only showcased amazing talent and artistry, but also highlighted the importance of continuing conversations around mental health, support, and connection. 💚

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event possible and to the organizations working every day to support mental health in North Dakota.

It’s Small Business Week, and I’ve been reflecting a lot lately.

Starting ARC Counseling came from a deep belief that people deserve a space where they feel safe, seen, and supported through life’s hardest moments. Watching clients grow, heal, and step into stronger versions of themselves is something I will never take for granted.

Running a small business isn’t always easy—but it is always worth it.

Thank you for being part of this journey 🤍

Ever noticed how a child can “hold it together” all day… then explode at home? It is also relevant for us as adults.

This is one of my favourite ways to explain why that happens — and it’s simple enough to do with a real Coke bottle.

Sit with your child and pass the bottle back and forth.
As you talk about their day, gently shake it each time a stress or trigger comes up. Share your own triggers also.
Noise. Work pressure. Friendship stuff. Trying to behave. Trying not to cry.

Then pause and ask:
“What do you think will happen if I take the top off now?”

That moment matters.

It helps children see that the explosion isn’t about being naughty or out of control — it’s about pressure building with nowhere to go.

From there, you can explore the real question:
How do we take the lid off without an explosion?

We talk about letting the bottle settle first.
Deep breathing.
Quiet time.
Food.
Movement.
Connection.
Time to decompress.

Regulation isn’t about forcing calm.
It’s about releasing pressure safely — a little at a time.

👉 You can find The Coke Bottle Activity linked in the comments below ⬇️ or via Linktree Shop in Bio.

I’d love to know — what “shakes the bottle” most for your child after school?

At ARC Counseling, we believe you don’t have to stay stuck in the same patterns or feelings—and that healing often goes beyond words.

Brainspotting is a powerful tool we use to help clients process what feels stuck, move through adversity, and build lasting resilience.

If you’re wondering whether it’s the right fit for you, we’re here to help you explore.
