Dr. Richard Berger

Dr. Richard Berger Dr. Richard A. Hip and Knee replacements with Dr. Richard Berger are anything but typical. Dr. Berger performs surgeries on an outpatient basis.

Berger is a nationally recognized orthopedic surgeon and pioneer of minimally invasive outpatient hip and knee replacement surgery, helping patients recover faster and return to active lifestyles sooner. In a traditional hip or knee replacement surgery, a surgeon makes a 12-inch incision cutting muscles, tendons and ligaments. A patient spends three or four days in the hospital, then must wait a m

onth before they can drive, and three months before they can go back to work. Using only a 3-5 inch incision, the tools designed by Dr. Berger move back your muscles, tendons, and ligaments without cutting them; reducing your recovery time by over 50%. A few hours after your new joint is in place, you will be full weight bearing; allowing you to walk, climb stairs, and leave the hospital to recover in the comfort of your home. Patients begin easing back into physical activities after only 3 weeks, and are about 90% recovered by 6 weeks. Contact us if you are ready to get back to living a healthy, pain-free life! As millions around the world watch the Tour de France, it's a reminder that some of the most inspiring cycling stories never happen on a professional race course—they happen after people overcome years of joint pain.

Ten years after her knee replacement, Cheryl Jensen continues to prove what's possible. This year alone, she completed a 7-day cycling trip through Sardinia, spent two weeks backcountry skiing in Canada, plays pickleball several times a week, enjoys golf, and is preparing to run the Vail Hillclimb, once again.

She's not alone.

Former patient Willie Winters fulfilled his dream of riding his bicycle across America after hip replacement. While another patient, Michael Hill, returned to cycling after experiencing firsthand the difference minimally invasive surgery can make. Countless others have found their way back to mountain biking, recreational rides, and adventures they once believed were over.

One patient who knows that feeling is President George W. Bush, who shared:

"Dr. Berger took an old guy like me who could barely walk—much less ride a bike—and shortly after the operation, I was on a bike riding like a madman."

For more than 30 years, my goal has never simply been replacing hips and knees; it's been helping people get back to living.

Whether your finish line is competing in great adventures like the Tour de France or a weekend ride with family, movement matters.

74 days. 4100 miles. Virginia to Oregon.

Willie Winters achieved his ultimate goal of cycling across America, 15 years following his minimally invasive hip replacement with Dr. Berger. He calls it a life changing experience.

Three months after undergoing minimally invasive hip replacement surgery with Dr. Richard Berger, Randy Mehrberg climbed 94 flights of stairs in Chicago’s iconic Hustle Up the Hancock charity event.

An athlete his entire life, Randy feared hip pain would permanently sideline him from the activities he loved most. Instead, after Dr. Berger’s advanced muscle-sparing procedure, he was back to skiing Colorado’s steep slopes, climbing skyscrapers, playing hockey, and waterskiing, all within months of surgery.

For anyone living with chronic hip pain, Randy’s message is simple: Don’t endure the pain; you don’t need to. Get it done and reclaim your life.
