We’re catching up on some exciting book-sharing news! In addition to releasing her own book (2nd edition of Sick Enough!) this year, Dr. Gaudiani has also contributed to and/or reviewed several other wonderful titles.

First up: A Women’s Guide to Menopause, Body Image, and Emotional Well-being at Midlife by Signe Darpinian, AKA

As Signe shares in her book, a study by Samuels et al. (2019) found that “73% of midlife women experience dissatisfaction with their weight, which is a significant risk factor for the development of an eating disorder.” As an eating disorders therapist, Signe approaches midlife changes with care and compassion, while inviting experts from a variety of fields, including Dr. G, who contributed a vignette titled "Four Keys to Health and Vitality in Midlife and Beyond", to share their expertise.

Many providers, including physicians, receive little to no training on midlife hormone changes, and we’re honored to be part of this much-needed wave of education and awareness.

Congratulations, Signe! We’re honored to support women through their midlife hormone changes alongside you! 💚

In addition to being the friendly face and voice welcoming patients and providers to the Gaudiani Clinic, Kennedy shares her incredible operational expertise (we’ve told you before: this gal knows her way around a spreadsheet!) and coordination skills with the entire team. Her exceptional talents are matched by her equally wonderful personality, and we’re so lucky to have her at the Gaudiani Clinic.

Our latest conversation on her podcast explores, "What do you need right now?" as an important question to ask as we aim to provide thoughtful and compassionate care. Hope you enjoy the conversation that also covers PTSD, perimenopause and menopause (including a case study), advances in eating disorder treatment, and innovative therapies involving interventional psychiatry. Happy listening!

We’ve been encouraged to see more awareness around Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) on social media lately, and we wanted to share some information we’ve seen make a meaningful difference for many of the patients we work with.

MCAS is a complex systemic condition that can show up in many different ways, with triggers ranging from alcohol, heat, and certain foods to mold, stress, and more. While we often treat individuals with MCAS who have no history of an eating disorder, we also frequently see patients in eating disorder treatment whose MCAS had previously gone undiagnosed.

The relationship between MCAS and eating disorders can be deeply interconnected. Eating disorders and undernutrition place significant stress on the body, which may trigger or intensify MCAS symptoms. At the same time, MCAS symptoms can lead to fear and avoidance of certain foods, especially when eating has been associated with discomfort or negative reactions. Over time, that avoidance can contribute to undernutrition or the development of disordered eating patterns.

This is why we believe:
• Everyone receiving eating disorder care should be thoughtfully screened for MCAS
• Individuals with MCAS should be monitored for signs of undernutrition and eating disorders

Greater awareness can lead to earlier identification, more compassionate care, and better outcomes for patients navigating both conditions.

We’re so grateful for all the feedback we’ve received about the new edition of Sick Enough (SE2)! One small drawback of releasing a new edition is that we have to start alllll the way over with reviews and ratings.

That said, this version includes a ton of new information and is fully updated, so we truly appreciate every new review as people read.

Have you read or listened to the new edition? We’d love for you to share your rating and review on Amazon, Goodreads, or wherever you leave reviews! 💚
