Being a proud dad and looking at the future, I told my son that I wish every college student is required to take this special course I thought of before they complete college:
Course Title- “Mirror”
One semester, one room. One mirror for each student. One Blue Book Final. One Grade: self-assigned. Prerequisite: being human. No exceptions.
Course objective:
Students must look deep within and encounter themselves honestly, even if it’s for the first time ever. There will be no professor, no performance, no grade to game, and no rubric- to reverse engineer.
Self- grade is tied to your karma. Deep down, beneath all the armor, you know exactly what you’ve done in your life and why. Also, know what you are doing in the present and what you will do in the future.
Far too many I’ve met would not be able to finish this course. They can never face who they are or what they’ve done to others. Most may drop out by the first four minutes and run to their cell phones or social media and be in a cycle of forever avoidance and facades.
The world will be a better place if such a course is a requirement.
It’s also the best advice I can give to my son to do. 🙏🙌☝️
