Here's the part that doesn't always get explained: high blood pressure doesn't just "stress" your body in the abstract, it physically damages your arteries. The constant extra force stretches artery walls past their healthy limit, causing small tears. The body's repair process (scar tissue) may end up trapping cholesterol and fat, which can build into plaque over time. In the neck's carotid arteries, that plaque buildup can narrow or block blood flow to the brain, or break off, which is how a stroke can happen. Per the American Heart Association, most people who've had a first stroke also had high blood pressure.

A routine aortic screening turned into something no one expected. Our technician Dave shares how a scan meant to check one thing revealed a massive ovarian cyst, just months from becoming cancerous.

To be clear: this isn't a typical finding, and it's not what our screenings are designed to detect. But it's a reminder that preventative screening can be another set of eyes on what's happening inside you, even when you feel completely fine.
