Summer schedules don't have to be rigid—but having one reliable routine can help provide stability.

Choose one thing that happens most days:
☕ Morning coffee on the porch
🚶 Evening walks
🍽️ Family dinner
📖 Reading before bed
🎲 Weekly game night

When life feels busy or unpredictable, small routines can help us stay grounded.

🌿 Summer Tip #2: Spend Time Outdoors

One of the simplest ways to support your mental well-being this summer is to spend time outside. Increased daylight and time in nature can help boost mood, improve energy levels, reduce stress, and support overall wellness.

Try:
🚶 Taking a walk
🌻 Gardening
🚴 Going for a bike ride
🏊 Swimming
🌳 Spending time in a local park

A few reminders:
💧 Stay hydrated
🧴 Apply sunscreen regularly
🌡️ Watch for signs of overheating

If longer days feel overstimulating or make it harder to unwind at night, consider using blackout curtains, an eye mask, or a calming evening routine to help support healthy sleep.

✨ Congratulations to Leslie! ✨

We are excited to share that Leslie has officially completed all of the requirements to be recognized as an EMDR Therapist! Over the past year, she has completed 20 hours of lecture, 20 hours of practicum, and 10 consultation hours as part of her EMDR training journey.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a specialized therapy approach that uses bilateral stimulation to help individuals process and reframe traumatic experiences. EMDR has been shown to help treat PTSD, trauma, anxiety, panic, and phobias in children, adolescents, and adults — both in person and virtually.

One of the unique benefits of EMDR is that it allows individuals to process trauma without having to repeatedly retell painful experiences. Through a structured 8-phase process, EMDR helps reduce emotional distress connected to traumatic memories and supports healthier, more positive associations over time.

We are incredibly proud of Leslie’s dedication to expanding her clinical knowledge and continuing to provide high-quality care and support to the individuals and families she works with every day. 💙

Summer can be a time to recharge, reconnect, and enjoy a change of pace—but it can also bring challenges like disrupted routines, social pressures, travel stress, and changes in mental health symptoms.

Over the next several weeks, our therapists at Functional Behavior Services will be sharing practical tips to help you navigate the season with greater balance, connection, and well-being.

⚓ To start, take a moment to define what you want your summer to look like.
Instead of chasing a "perfect" summer, focus on what feels meaningful to you.

Maybe that's:
☀️ Spending more time outdoors
🤝 Reconnecting with friends
📚 Finishing a personal project
😴 Improving sleep habits
💛 Making time for rest and enjoyment

Your summer doesn't have to look like anyone else's to be meaningful.

Ready to make your mental health a priority this summer? Call us today to schedule an appointment.

A Reminder from Our FBS Couples Therapist, Jamie 🤝

Healthy communication doesn’t mean never arguing.

It means learning how to:
• stay respectful during conflict
• pause when emotions become overwhelming
• repair after misunderstandings
• remain curious about each other, even during hard moments

Relationships don’t need perfection to grow.

They need space for honesty, accountability, and reconnection.

Jamie is currently accepting new couples therapy clients at FBS.
