For the past 10 years, Tanjala Gipson, MD, pediatric neurodevelopmental neurologist at Le Bonheur and UT Health Sciences, has led Le Bonheur’s TSC-Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND) Clinic. Among the clinic’s first patients was Jon Parker Gilliam, who was diagnosed with TSC and referred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for comprehensive, coordinated care.
For Jon Parker’s family, having access to multiple specialists in one place made a meaningful difference. His mother, Robin, appreciated being able to see all his providers during a single visit.
“The TAND Clinic specializes in TSC, and the care team is very knowledgeable on the treatments and updates on the condition. Dr. Gipson is a positive person and has made a huge difference for our family and in getting Jon Parker the care he needs,” Robin said.
As a child, Jon Parker visited the TAND Clinic several times a year. Today, at 28, he returns every two to three years, a reflection of the long-term support and continuity of care available through Le Bonheur’s TSC program.
“Dr. Gipson makes me feel seen and heard,” Jon Parker said. “She has helped me with the psychological side of TSC and understands the care and resources I need. She’s encouraged me to attend the TSC World Conference, where I found great information and resources and also connected with other patients and families like me.”
