For the past 10 years, Tanjala Gipson, MD, pediatric neurodevelopmental neurologist at Le Bonheur and UT Health Sciences, has led Le Bonheur’s TSC-Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND) Clinic. Among the clinic’s first patients was Jon Parker Gilliam, who was diagnosed with TSC and referred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for comprehensive, coordinated care.

For Jon Parker’s family, having access to multiple specialists in one place made a meaningful difference. His mother, Robin, appreciated being able to see all his providers during a single visit.

“The TAND Clinic specializes in TSC, and the care team is very knowledgeable on the treatments and updates on the condition. Dr. Gipson is a positive person and has made a huge difference for our family and in getting Jon Parker the care he needs,” Robin said.

As a child, Jon Parker visited the TAND Clinic several times a year. Today, at 28, he returns every two to three years, a reflection of the long-term support and continuity of care available through Le Bonheur’s TSC program.

“Dr. Gipson makes me feel seen and heard,” Jon Parker said. “She has helped me with the psychological side of TSC and understands the care and resources I need. She’s encouraged me to attend the TSC World Conference, where I found great information and resources and also connected with other patients and families like me.”

We were “All Shook Up” as Elvis tribute artists stopped by Seacrest Studios inside Le Bonheur Children’s during Elvis Week at Graceland!

We were thrilled to welcome tribute artists Dean and Patrick as they brought the spirit of Elvis straight to our patients and families.

The duo was “taking care of business” in the studio with live performances of Elvis’s biggest hits during a rockin’ game of Elvis Bingo for our young fans and visitors. From classic tunes to big smiles, it was a swingin’ time for everyone.

Thank you to Dean and Patrick for stopping by to share the magic of Elvis and bring so much joy, music and laughter to our kids.

When Jordan was 22 weeks pregnant, she and her husband, Danny, found out that their unborn son had gastroschisis- a birth defect where a baby is born with their organs outside of their body.

Jordan and Danny traveled from their West Tennessee home to deliver their son, Benton, in Memphis. Benton was taken to Le Bonheur a few hours after he was born and underwent his first surgery. Within the first week of life, Benton had seven surgeries to repair his intestines.

For 153 days, Benton called Le Bonheur’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) home. He received expert care from the NICU team, who became like family.

Once Benton underwent a successful surgery to close his abdomen, he was able to go home. Jordan and Danny were in constant contact with the gastrointestinal team at Le Bonheur to update them on their son’s progress, and at 7 months old, Benton was able to wean off IV nutrition.

When Benton had complications with his bowels, he was able to see a Le Bonheur doctor closer to home at the Le Bonheur Outpatient Center in Jackson, Tenn.

“We are grateful to be able to rely on the same people who have cared for Benton since his birth,” Jordan said. “Being able to go to Jackson and receive care from Le Bonheur is amazing. I don’t have to take an entire day off work to go to Memphis, and Benton’s entire medical history is already there.”

Benton had an additional surgery in 2024, and today, he returns for follow-up appointments in Jackson every six months.

Now 10 years old, Benton loves to hunt, fish and play baseball, all the typical kid activities that his parents weren’t sure he would be able to do when he was a baby.

When you participate in this year’s Pumpkin Run, you are making a difference for kids like Benton. Register today at www.pumpkinrun.org.

We loved having a few wild visitors stop by Seacrest Studios at Le Bonheur!

Our friends Sierra and Lauren from Memphis Zoo dropped by to introduce patients and families to some very special animal guests: Teboka the tenrec, Poseidon the box turtle and Bisquick the pancake tortoise.

During the visit, our young patients learned all about each animal, including the unique similarities and differences between turtles and tortoises. Thank you to the Memphis Zoo for bringing such a fun and educational experience to our kids.

Le Bonheur and Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics were honored to host the Inaugural Ben Mauck Memorial Pediatric Hand Surgery Visiting Lectureship, featuring distinguished guest speaker WashU Medicine Division Chief of Hand and Microsurgery and Pediatric and Adolescent Orthopedics Lindley Wall, MD, MSc.

This special lectureship celebrated the enduring impact of Dr. Mauck, whose dedication to advancing the field of hand surgery and commitment to excellence continues to inspire surgeons.

During the event, Dr. Wall delivered an engaging lecture, "Congenital Hand Differences: Transitions in Thought Through Classifications and Outcomes," exploring the evolution of how congenital hand differences are understood, classified, and evaluated, and how these changes continue to shape patient care and surgical outcomes.

As we launch this inaugural lectureship, we are proud to honor Ben's remarkable contributions while fostering the exchange of knowledge that will continue to advance pediatric hand surgery for years to come.

Thank you to Dr. Wall and all who joined us in celebrating Ben's lasting legacy and commitment to improving the lives of patients through exceptional care and education.

After the Wherry family suddenly lost their 22-year-old son, Lawson, when his heart stopped in October 2019, their family and friends sought an annual way to gather, share memories and honor his life. Because Lawson loved golfing and they wanted to help prevent other families from experiencing a similar loss, they launched the then-titled Lawson Wherry Invitational in 2020.

Now called the Lawson's Legacy Golf Tournament, the event supports Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and Project ADAM, a national organization founded by parents who lost a child to sudden cardiac arrest.

The inaugural 2020 tournament raised $10,000. In recognition of that support, Le Bonheur named it's local chapter "Lawson's Legacy" when it officially became a Project ADAM affiliate in July 2021. The tournament has grown significantly since then, raising a record $22,660 in 2025.

This year’s Lawson's Legacy Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Links at Galloway Golf Course. Golfers, local businesses, and community members will tee off with a shared goal: to raise funds to place life-saving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and cardiac emergency action plans in local schools while honoring Lawson's memory together.

We are deeply grateful to the Wherry family and everyone who supports Project ADAM. Register for this year's golf tournament at https://lawsons-legacy.perfectgolfevent.com/.
