St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has named Charles W.M. Roberts, MD, PhD, as its seventh president and CEO. A physician-scientist and collaborative leader, Dr. Roberts has spent the past decade helping to strengthen the research and clinical care foundation that supports children and families at St. Jude, in Memphis and around the world.

Dr. Roberts will step into the role as part of a planned leadership transition, following James R. Downing, MD’s announcement earlier this year that he would step down as president and CEO. Since joining St. Jude in 2015, Dr. Roberts has led the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center, working across research programs, clinical teams and partner institutions to connect scientific discovery with progress in care for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Dr. Downing has described the Cancer Center as “the crown jewel of our research endeavors,” a reflection of the strong foundation already in place as St. Jude looks to its next chapter.

As St. Jude looks ahead, Dr. Roberts brings a deep understanding of the institution’s mission and a leadership style shaped by partnership — bringing people together across disciplines and organizations to advance care, research and hope for families.

“We are closer than ever before to realizing my father’s dream that no child should die in the dawn of life, thanks in large part to the work of Charlie Roberts over the past decade,” said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude and daughter of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas. “There is no one more qualified to lead St. Jude into the future than Charlie, a brilliant scientist and dedicated physician who truly embodies our mission of finding cures and saving children. I wish my father were here for this remarkable passing of the torch.”

This past weekend was special for the CBS Sports golf broadcast team and St. Jude as Jim Nantz honored the legacy of the late legendary broadcaster, Pat Summerall with the dedication of naming the Green Room at St. Jude in his honor.

Pat's impact lives on through the annual Pat Summerall Award, presented at the Legends for Charity Dinner benefiting St. Jude, and through the continued support of friends like Jim who carry that legacy forward.

Since 2006, the Legends for Charity Dinner, created by Cheryl DeLeonardis, has raised more than $16 million for St. Jude in Pat's honor.

Thank you Jim for your continued commitment to St. Jude. We are grateful to have you as part of the St. Jude family. ❤️
