A late autism diagnosis can explain so much about your past, but it doesn't automatically tell you which parts of you were real, and which parts were coping.

For a lot of autistic adults diagnosed later in life, therapy becomes a place to go back through old memories with new information, slowly separating who you actually are from what you learned to do just to get by.

It's not fast work. But it's often how people start meeting themselves, maybe for the first time.

Hi, we're Cedar Tree Wellness Center, a group of 21 Nashville therapists, each with our own specialty and style. We specialize in anxiety, trauma, depression, and personal growth. Reach out if we can help!

Adults who feel pressure to achieve (or over-achieve) can fall into this one sticky habit, comparing ourselves to other people.

It's easy to assume that the comparison thoughts are all about that other person: their achievements, their character strengths, their skills or their luck. But it rarely is.

Usually, our "nemesis" is only a stand-in, a way of measuring a life against something concrete. When we compare, we're avoiding one hard question: Am I okay?

Checking someone else's life might feel faster and safer than checking in on our own. That's why we do it: it doesn't require a real answer, only a quick read so we know how we stack up.

But that can’t possibly settle anything, can it? It just delays the question a little longer.

🦉 What would it look like to ask the real question instead?

Some of the most meaningful work we do in therapy is with people who have built something really beautiful, and are still grieving what it cost them to get there.

We're a Nashville-based counseling practice that specializes in therapy for our local LGBTQIA+ community. Reach out whenever you need us.

Hey Nashville! We think you should know about 👀

MashUp! Nashville is a local non-profit group supporting health and wellness for the Black LGBTQ+ community. They do important and necessary work supporting our neighbors and friends, and they help make our city safer and better for all in it!

A lot of people move to Nashville and expect to feel one thing at a time: excited or sad, glad they left or wishing they hadn't. That's not really how it works. You can love your new city and still miss your old one, sometimes in the same afternoon.

If you've teared up over an old group chat, or felt a wave of something heavy in the middle of an otherwise good day, that's grief, even when nothing went wrong and the move was the right call. It doesn't need a bigger reason to be real.

Masking can follow you into the therapy room, giving the answer that sounds right instead of the one that's true, and it can keep real change out of reach if it goes unnoticed.

This is part 4 in our series, “The cost of masking”.

Part 1 looked at the body, part 2 looked at your sense of self, and part 3 looked at connection. This week, we're looking at what masking costs inside the therapy room itself, and what it looks like when a therapist notices and helps you set it down.

Families look a lot of different ways, like a parent doing it solo, a grandparent stepping up, two people building together, friends who became each other's people... The one thing they have in common is that it's up to the people in the family to define what a family is.

However your family is shaped, it counts, and it deserves support.

Hi, we’re Cedar Tree Wellness Center. We offer family therapy sessions in Nashville, and we welcome all of it.

Masking can leave you feeling isolated from the people who care about you most, even when nothing is actually wrong between you.

This is part 3 in our series on the cost of masking.

In part 1, we looked at what masking does to the body. Part 2 looked at what it costs your sense of self.

This week, we're looking at connection, and what it can look like to start letting people in, slowly, with the right support.

Dear anxious humans in Nashville: join us for Mindfulness Hour!

We meet weekly, always at 6pm, at our office in Nashville📍 4623 Trousdale Drive, Nashville, TN 37204

What is it?
Mindfulness Hour is a group therapy session dedicated to building mindfulness skills. It’s led by our clinical intern therapists and favorite humans, Anna and Jensen.

What is it like?
In session we might journal, color, mediate, or use gentle stretching and movement to help manage anxiety and stress.

And here’s why we love it:
It's a great low pressure way to support healing from anxiety and stress, find a quieter mind, and do it all in good company!

When you're new in town, you might find yourself trying to fix your job stress, your loneliness, and your logistics all at once. That's what we call a good way to burn out before your second month. Listen to us: it helps to tackle your challenges one at a time, like this:

Logistics first. A working routine for groceries, commute, and healthcare gives you enough stability to think clearly about everything else.

Loneliness next. It won't resolve in a month, but one recurring thing, a class, a gym, a group, gets it moving.

Career stress last, and not because it matters less, but because it's easier to handle once the ground under you feels steady.

Matt and Jessamyn are two of our therapists who work with clients navigating the early, disorienting stretch of a move to Nashville.

At Cedar Tree Wellness Center, we'd love to help you find your footing. We offer accessible, affirming care, in-person and via Telehealth, and we're in-network with most major insurance plans.

Which of the three feels hardest to get a handle on right now: logistics, loneliness, or career stress?
