3 Things you may not have considered before becoming a gestational surrogate:

1. Financial Status- Surrogacy should not be seen as a quick fix for financial difficulties, as the journey requires time off work, potential medical appointments, and recovery periods that may impact income. We never want anyone to feel compelled to become a surrogate out of financial necessity.

2. Willingness to Take Injectable Medication- Surrogacy often involves hormone treatments, including daily injections to prepare your body for embryo transfer, and support early pregnancy. Being comfortable with needles (or having support from someone who can assist) is crucial for your health and the success of the process.

3. Desire to Provide Breastmilk for the Surrobaby- Some intended parents may request breastmilk after birth for the baby’s nutritional benefits. While this is an optional, compensated choice, it’s worth considering if you’re open to pumping and supplying breastmilk postpartum, as it requires time, effort, and commitment.
